Who should be in the new MLB wave?

Postby NYNJFancave1 » Sun Sep 02, 2018 10:12 pm

The baseball season is ending soon. I would like to know who should be in the next wave. I think we need to question who will win the season awards. In addition, should Funko Pop make a legends series (that will be an interesting topic for Yankee fans)?

I think Miguel Andújar will get one if he gets rookie of the year.

I'd like to see some legends/HOFs:
Sandy Koufax
George Brett
Willie Mays
Ernie Banks
Roberto Clemente
Don Drysdale
Mickey Mantle
Hank Aaron
I'm Greg. My son is "RSVHockeyDude". We collect Funko products together.
Pop! Count = 3133
Pop! Pez Count = 197
Funko Soda (My New Favorite): 762 different Sodas including Intl Versions
Other Funko Products (Hikari, Vynl, Wobblers, etc) = 87
Proto Count = 14 Pop (Mostly NHL; a little of Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, Disney, The Simpsons); 4 Soda (NYCC Freddy)

Can't count out Gleyber Torres just yet. Amazing how the Yanks have been cranking out top level rookies the past couple of years.

I would love to see a legends series of MLB Pops. It's hard to choose who to make as there are so many possibilities. Maybe they could do waves by decades.

Wave 1: The 1920's and 1930's
1. Babe Ruth
2. Lou Gehrig
3. Ty Cobb
4. Rogers Hornsby
5. Dizzy Dean
6. Joe DiMaggio

Wave 2: The 1940's and 1950's
1. Ted Williams
2. Stan Musial
3. Willie Mays
4. Jackie Robinson
5. Mickey Mantle
6. Warren Spahn

Wave 3: The 1960's and 1970's
1. Sandy Koufax
2. Hank Aaron
3. Frank Robinson
4. Roger Maris
5. Mike Schmidt
6. Reggie Jackson

Wave 4: The 1980's and 1990's
1. Nolan Ryan
2. Dennis Eckersley
3. Roger Clemens
4. Orel Hershiser
5. Ken Griffey Jr.
6. Cal Ripken Jr.

Wave 5: 2000's to Present
1. Ichiro Suzuki
2. Chipper Jones
3. David Ortiz
4. Alex Rodriguez
5. Derek Jeter
6. Vladimir Guerrero

There are a lot of other players worthy of being on these lists. Hopefully we will see these sooner than later.

Hopefully the two of them don't split the votes and have Ohtani sneak in. Andujar's bat has been amazing this season.

I'd love a legends line! There's too many to name so I'll pick my 5 most wanted legends.

Ruth
Mantle
Gerhig
DiMaggio
and a more recent player compared to the rest but still a legend in my eyes, Derek Jeter. Could do a "game" moment too with his signature jump throw or the flip.

Definitely. We had this same discussion several months ago. I looked for the old thread to attach it to this but I can't find it. Really it is so many legends that could be done I don't know where to begin. I do like the person that started the list by decades. Without a doubt I think a general sports legends line would be awesome. MLB, NFL, NHL, Boxing, Soccer, etc... Personally I think it would make more sense than current players line. The only current player/mascot I would buy would be the Orioles bird. Now if you talk a Legends line now I would line up for countless pops. Hopefully this happens.

Ken Griffey Jr is actually being given away during a Mariners game at the end of the month.

I also appreciate the list but there's also so many more that could be made. They definitely have a lot of people to work with

Mascots would be awesome but it would be tough to sell to other teams. But if they only put mascots in the city they're in, it'd make a cool souvenir to show which ballparks you've been to. I think both the legends line and current players work, just because who wouldn't buy the legends but it's also cool to see your favorite current players in pop form too. And the latter would be easier to get a signed pop too

3. Roger Clemens
4. Orel Hershiser
5. Ken Griffey Jr.
6. Cal Ripken Jr.

Wave 5: 2000's to Present
1. Ichiro Suzuki
2. Chipper Jones
3. David Ortiz
4. Alex Rodriguez

There are a lot of other players worthy of being on these lists. Hopefully we will see these sooner than later.

I would take out David Ortiz and put Mariano Rivera
and no Barry Bond?

Agreed. Barry Bonds should be there!

Ruth
Mantle
Gerhig
DiMaggio
and a more recent player compared to the rest but still a legend in my eyes, Derek Jeter. Could do a "game" moment too with his signature jump throw or the flip.

The Jeter "chase" could be one of him with a bloody cheek after diving into the stands on the 3rd base side.

Those would be GREAT! The question is, would they be the only versions; or would there be a colored and monochrome. I'd be inclined to say they should only do monochrome only on the really old guys!

I agree with a lot of the guys on the list. While a few of them wouldn't be in my list (Hershiser and Eckersley ... and I'm sure some on my list wouldn't be on other people's lists), there's no reason not to make 'em all :bounce:

A few I'd add to this list:
50's Brooks Robinson, Bob Gibson
60s Lou Brock, Pete Rose, Willie McCovey, Rod Carew, Johnny Bench
70s George Brett, Gary Carter (Beat Everyone in the All-Star Votes for many years), Ozzie Smith
80s Rickey Henderson, Don Mattingly
90s Derek Jeter

Yes... Henderson and Mattingly!! Had Yankee tshirts with #24 and #23 when I was a kid. Donnie baseball was my favorite player when I was a youngster. If pops were made, I would add them to my Judge and Stanton Pops.

These are some great additions! There have been so many talented players throughout the history of the game I could see this being a line that goes on for many years.
