The Urge to Open is Strong

Postby Stirny » Thu Jan 22, 2015 5:56 pm

I am falling in love with Funko. The majority of my collection is Pops! which I open all of them and display them that way, though I do keep the boxes. I also am building my Legacy collection and leave them in the box but don't have a problem with it.

My Hikari collection though is a different story. They look great in the box and I don't see myself ever trying to sell or trade them but the urge to crack them open and hold the actual piece in my hand is hard to keep under control.

I've thought about displaying the ones with over 1000 made out of the box and the ones under in the box but I don't know. Anyone else battle with this first world dilemma?

I only open the boxed hikari from the bottom, slip my hand under the nameplate to loosen it and turn it around so the name and # are visible, then close it back up.

Any tips on getting the tape off the bottom without hurting the box? I don't know why I care so much more about the boxes on these than I do the Pops!

Yes, i loosen the tape, remove the nameplate, flip it over, put the tape on the other side and put it back in the box.

Only 3/8 of my Hikari are out of the box, because I quickly ran out of room. If I had endless space they would all be opened now. They look really good out of the box.

I ran out of space too and had to stack them from the floor up so they have to stay in the box...the mindstyle ones in the bags come out of the bag tho.

Open the bagged ones. It is simply a ziploc bag with a thin piece of cardboard stabled to it. You can easily put it back in the back exactly into the bag the way it was.

Thanks. I opened it. I thought once it was open, the bag was ruined

I can think of many things to do with a box.... but I don't think that's your thing at all.

This is one of the few itemsI'm keeping boxed up. I would want to display them in a glass case if I take them out.

I love them in the box, that mirror finish inside the box really sets them off!

I've taken all my Hikari out of the boxes; I just love the unobstructed view of my Funko, top to bottom. The circular seals on the outside of the box are pretty easy to remove without leaving any residue--just work slowly.

Sadly, all my Astro Boys have an issue being able to stand; they tend to fall backward (I used washers under the heels to balance them)

It would be nice if Funko would not tape the numbering cards upside down... then I wouldn't have to feel like I was mangling everything while I try to find out which one I got.

I normally don't open anything, but I couldn't resist checking the cards... 2 of them ended up being artist proofs.

Maybe Funko should think about a sleeve type system in the bottom of the box where the card can be slid in and out.

Maybe they should just flip them over when they install them.
