Ideas for New Hikaris

Postby BatLita » Thu Mar 10, 2022 10:53 am

Do you think this line should be discontinued altogether? If not - who would you like to see as a Hikari figure? I would love to see Disney done in Hikari - I think a Winnie the Pooh, with a glitter variant would look great!

I'd say the odds of getting new Hikari are negative 1000% lol

I loved em, but they are long gone.

It shouldn't be discontinued, but the mentality for me would be, buy a few Hikaris or save that money for Funko NFT drops. It was nice when they were dropping a new Hikari what seemed like every Friday. But there was less Funko to buy back then. Now with so many lines, what to spend your money on??

With the corporate structure that Funko now has I can't see Hikaris ever making a comeback. Much like Dorbz they did not sell well for the retail partners, they were a novel idea but just weren't profitable.

Maybe they find some hidden in their warehouse and surprise us with a drop.

Though they will never make a return unless Funko decides a throwback Fundays, I want the Hitchhiking Ghosts.

A lot of the more unique lines are the ones that have died off over the years unfortunately. As much as pops are my favorite and I'm glad to see those still going strong, it's a shame the variety isn't what it used to be. Makes focusing easier but the other stuff was really cool.

I'm really happy about the current success of sodas but almost all the lines that they have tried since coming out with pops have had a tepid response at best.

Unfortunately this is true. I love pops as much as the next person and soda is really cool too but I definitely miss a lot of variety in lines. However, I know they all don’t sell well so that’s why they get cut.

There's kind of a lot going in to the Funko Hikari history and story. Originally, Funko was making them with MindStyle. The quality and design was great, but they had a falling out with MS for a few reasons, none of which I know the entire backstory of. Funko Sofubi was really meant to make a bridge between designer and mass-produced toys, but they weren't the quality that designer toy collectors were looking for, and they were too expensive for the rest of us. $80 price tag to someone who normally drops $10 on a pop was too much for most to swallow. So then funko tried with the mini hikari, but by then most people weren't so interested and they would rather have the pop than the clear glittery ones, so they died.

I really enjoyed several of the Hikari line. I'm still hunting for a few, in fact. But they just weren't interesting to too many people and the buyers weren't there to sustain the line. I think it was a good effort by Funko though, and many of them were a really noble effort and they made some really solid-looking toys. And if you weren't around for the Hikari days, maybe take a look at some of the GREAT deals you can get on them on second-hand markets. You might find something you really love for a fraction of the original retail price.

I remember the Red Lion being about $100. Box Lunch later down the line had them for something like $10. Great pieces and if you were to get the entire set, even sweeter.
