Batman '66 Wave 2?
New to this. Just curious is anyone knows is the Batman '66 wave 2 series is still alive? I've looked on some Batman '66 sites, and there was talks of a wave 2 in summer 2018, but that "officially" ended yesterday. Still hoping for Joker, Penguin, Riddler (2 suits), even a pink-cowled Batman.

It blows my mind that Wave 1 didn’t have Joker. If they make a second I’d say he’s a guarantee.

Re: Batman '66 Wave 2?
I am about 150% sure the line is dead.
The whole thing goes like this (the short version):
We are now closing in on 2019 and the 2 year anniversary of the announcement of wave 1. Two years between releases is not a successful business module. This line is dead and the creator of the line is in denial and won't just simply state it.
R.I.P. Funko Batman '66 line
The whole thing goes like this (the short version):
- Toy Fair 2017 arrives and we are introduced to the line of Batman 66 figures by Funko.
Batman 66 line is released in spring/early summer 2017.
People absolutely love it.
Reis O'Brien (head designer for this line at Funko) does a popular podcast that spring/summer that states what the future holds and that they are all in on this one.
The Funko store even creates giant sized Batman figures and a whole area for this pri\duct.
We wait for news on wave 2.
We still wait for news on wave 2.
SDCC comes and no new news on wave 2.
NYCC comes and no new news on wave 2.
Batman 66 collectors are growing nervous and wanting info...we calm down, assuring ourselves that Funko and Reis would definitely give us information on the one year anniversary of the announcement if not before.
Toy Fair 2018 comes and there in NOTHING announced and no presence there.
Popular website 13th Dimension writes an article on wave possibly never coming out and questioning Funko and Reis O'Brien and status.
Reis O'Brien tells fans "Everyone relax. Wave 2 hits this summer."
We still wait for news on wave 2.
Summer comes...no pictures, announcement, or even a lineup of wave 2.
No factories in production of wave 2.
SDCC 2018 comes...we are sure there will be some kind of announcement whether it be cancellation or release.
SDCC 2018 goes...no comment...no nothing.
People start hounding Reis on Twitter wanting to know why were told one thing and no one carried though....we just wanted an official announcement on whether wave 2 will happen or if line is dead.
Reis answers back talking about some factory issue and also that molds are done but does not offer line up or such or give release date.
Rumors abound that maybe they will be part of the Funko batman 66 Mystery Box that is a Target exclusive.
Target Exclusive Mystery Box comes out and has no wave 2 figures in it, only a Batman 66 Heroworld type figure 2 pack.
NYCC 2018 comes and no one on either side mentions it because at this point Reis doesn't care and buyers won't believe him.

Too bad it is just an open-ended ending....kind of like a person who has been missing for seven years and been declared dead but without proof you will always hold on hope. I guess we are just wanting proof of death so we can go on with our lives....LOL.

Re: Batman '66 Wave 2?
It's a shame to see the line die. Like with SW Mortal Kombat, I think it got clearanced to oblivion. Honestly, ALL the Batman '66 merch aside from the Batmobiles and the Shakespeare bust vinyl bank seem to have underperformed as far as I can tell.
My hope for you guys is that they just release a 5 pack with Batman, Robin, Joker, Riddler, and Penguin. (And maybe another with Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Gordon, O'Hara, and Alfred.)
That MIGHT sell. (And I think you NEED the rereleases to get sales from people who skipped the originals.)
The single carded figures seemed in part to be a victim of shelf space. No retailer had shelf space allocated in good places and they wound up in hard to find areas, quickly clearanced.
In general, I'm not sure that figures seem to be working out that well. The Stranger Things ones seem to be the winners based on casual observation and I think the problem with single carded 3 3/4" is that they take up a lot of space for a little product, which makes retailers wary. Even the VERY well done Disney Afternoon ones seem to have tanked aside from Darkwing.
I think a BIG part of it is that people buying that scale don't want single figures. They want collections. And retailers don't want to devote that much shelfspace to something that cheap. The multipacks are more economical with space.

Re: Batman '66 Wave 2?
I feel like part of the problem is that there is a ton of competition in the action figure market. I feel like the stores are banking on the Funko name moving product? I am sure they are learning the hard way that most people collecting Funko are people hoarding pops. I agree, they should have released in multi packs. I think that DC/WB is probably culpable here as well. They went fully all in promoting the heck out of Primal Age and those are selling like crazy. It is pretty disappointing if they never give us an actual answer about wave 2.

They need to make the 1966 batman figures like the primal age figures. All he-man looking.

Re: Batman '66 Wave 2?
You know, I hadn’t been banking on Primal Age Wave 2 (sculpted and in production now already) to do Robin until you said that.
And a Primal Age Burt Ward/classic Robin popped into my head.
His vest is ALREADY based on a medieval vest/tunic. He already has shorts with bare legs.
I’d probably just rough up the gloves and sleeves, give him green fur boots, change the R logo to a gothic or runic font, mess up the hair a bit, and give him big green or yellow bird wings, maybe Stratos style.
The hard thing with most of these guys has been changing them. Superman got a mace hand. Green Lantern got WHITE fur boots and an actual lantern. So Robin would basically just be a roughed up classic Robin with wings. (Without the wings, he has no 80s toy gimmick character element.) Which could be recycled for Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

Interesting, and thanks for the write-up Crayfish73. I was hoping that this wasn't the end for that line. I was very much hoping for a DC line of 3 3/4" figures, but that just doesn't seem to be in the cards

Re: Batman '66 Wave 2?
Thank you. Great read. With so many other products Funko has introduced like the DC Primal Age, I think that line is over especially with the passing of Adam West.

My biggest problem is I never see any Funko reps on this site (which is owned by them) that will weigh in on this.
It would be different if this were a fan site....but they created this.

Well..it looks as if after Toy Fair that Funko is moving completely out of the 3 3/4" action figure scale and going towards the Savage World style stuff now. Nothing new seen. Super 7 on the other hand did not pick up the Batman 66 license. Give up the license Funko or make the figures.

If we’re speculating on this, note that Mezco is making 3 3/4” Scooby Doo, Space Ghost, and Birdman under their new Five Points line.
Honestly, these sculpts have more character than we’re used to seeing at that scale and they’re WB properties.
With McFarlane getting the 6”-12” license for DC collectible figures, it would not shock me to see Mezco get 3”-4” and Funko get 5”-6”.

So that you guys know...
Mezco has picked up the license for 1:18.
They will be launching with Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Batman, Robin, and the Batmobile. These are 5 point of articulation figures.
They hit in Summer 2020.
They look to be going loose with likenesses and what I'm hearing speculated is that their license is technically to the two animated Batman 66 movies. West, Ward, and Newmarr have fairly close likenesses with slightly more heroic proportions. Penguin and Joker look like the cartoon takes.

I absolutely love those figures. I am planning on getting all the Scooby Doo ones. I just wish the Fleischer Superman was sold on his own and not just in the play set.

So even though this figure line is dead, if it ever were to miraculously come back someday I'd love to see:
-Batman (pink cowl)
-Robin (single carded)
-2 Catwoman variants (Lee Merriweather w/mask on & Eartha Kitt)
-Joker
-Penguin
-Riddler (with a John Astin variant)
-Egghead
-Mad Hatter
-Two-Face (from Batman vs. Two-Face animated film)
It's a crime that this line never did Joker, Penguin or Riddler, and at the very least it would be nice to get a 3-pack someday. But I suppose it'll have to wait until Mezco gives up the rights.

I wonder if Super 7 will make something like that, their Reaction figures are starting to pick up. They have some really obscure figures that are awesome. I’m hoping Funko could partner back up for another run of them
