questkid32 wrote:I have a couple protos that I've exclusively gotten from Fundays in the past and this year, when I got one that wasn't really fitting for my collection, I tried to do some trades and even posted on eBay and I got such a hard time for not having a picture of myself with it at Fundays. I didn't realize how important "lineage" was and that many people won't buy/trade without it. I even had pics of all my Fundays swag and some of the other pops I got and people were suggesting that maybe I just bought all of it elsewhere so I could peddle fake protos... . I can appreciate wanting to ensure authenticity but some people were really taking it too far.
I can relate to this, funko prototype is another level of collecting.

Having only received my first Proto this summer, I got to say they are a very cool thing to have. I think I will hold onto that one forever but would like to get more knowledgeable about trades for future ones.

Unfortunately there's fakes/"scrappers" out there that folks try to pass off as authentic.
Truthfully, I had never thought of doing that, but you are right, with the possibility of fakes and/or scappers, you should do this with your proto. Except for my first Fundays I have swag from all my other Fundays, but I usually hang on to my protos.
I wish I had come across this thread sooner. I just got my first protos at Fright Night, but didn’t take photos at the event.

Been curious about this. I know it's common to get these from things like Fundays, Fright Nights, etc but are there other methods outside of events that people can acquire protos?

Can be, depends on what each person thinks is expensive. Stores you could almost always expect to see that though.
