What Ad Icons Would You Pick?

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got a spring. Come inside and chat about Funko Wacky Wobblers (bobble heads, for the less sophisticated).

What Ad Icons Would You Pick?

Postby Scotty » Wed Feb 27, 2013 10:36 am

It's been said by a few that they'd like to see more ad icons. I really love the old ad icon Wobblers (wobblers because they are more true to the actual look of the ad icon).

EDIT: Just wanted to give credit where it's due--Draco planted the idea in my head with his thread in the PoP section. But I'm just talkin' Wobblers over here.

So what ad icons from your youth would you like to see as Wobblers?

I have to admit, this icon was even a little before my time, but he'd probably make a cool Wobbler. 7-Up was a much bigger deal when I was growing up, especially in the 70's. The "Uncola Nut" campaign was pretty in your face. Worked on me; it was my absolute soda of choice.

Then, there was my favorite long-term ad icon, Josephine. Remind you of anyone--a current ad icon--Flo from Progressive? Josephine was so darn plucky (that's right, I just said 'plucky')

Not sure if he'd make a good Wobbler, but I loved the erasers they made and hid in the big bags of Frito Corn Chips. None other than the Frito Bandito. Come on, sing along, "Aye Yi Yi Yi, I'm the Frito Bandito, I like Frito Corn chips, I love them, I do, I want Frito Corn chips, I'll get them from you...

But my first pick, without a doubt is Quake. I'm still brooding over losing the Quisp-Quake war of 1972. And I'm talking the origianl icon, not the slimmed down version they did in the early 70's.

I had to look up that 7up mascot since I never seen it before. His name is Fresh-Up Freddy.

Now that you mention 7up, a Fido Dido and the the Cool Spot would be neat.

My favorite has always been the Coca-Cola Polar Bears. The first polar bear print advertisement appeared in France in 1922 and periodically do commericial spots throught out the years. Here is a sampling of my favorites...

Honestly, wouldn't they make cool wobblers (or even PoP)?

I'd like Jack from Jack in the Box. That's not from my childhood, but it's hard to think that far back.

I so miss some advertising wobblers......we use to make lists of so many we'd love to see - who knows Choo Choo Charlie can be just around the next bend! I think there's many of us that would kill to see the Frito Bandito as a wobbler. I believe, in some cases, it had to do with licenses, etc.........but I'd sure love to see an advertising wobbler. Part of the fun back in the day was obtaining it.......like the Phillipe or Antique Row Cafe and of course Smart Alex! That's where friendships were forged!

I had seriously looked at creating a custom of the Frito Bandito and doing sketches. It was totally building and sculpting from scratch. I would love it if they had created him!

They were going to make Cheezasauras and the Vlassic Stork. I would have snatched them up.
Also the World's Most Interesting Man would be fun.
They got the Ghostbusters license it would be cool if they did Stay-Puff in the style of the old Ad Icon boxes.
They also have the Star Wars and Hanna Barberra license, so a Kellog's C-3PO's and a Post Pebbles wobbler would be cool.
