Your ReAction Questions Answered Here!

Let's talk about Funko and Super 7's great line of ReAction and Legacy action figures. They don't bobble or pop, but they thrill in their own fun way.

Happy New Year everyone.

Now all you need to do for 2015 is to arrange for my salary to go straight into the Reaction bank account... it'll save a lot of time and effort. :-)

Fingers crossed! It is the 20th Anniversary of Xena: Warrior Princess in 2015, so maybe we Xenites will finally get some good, new Xena merchandise to celebrate.

Any chance, other than Aliens and T2, will there be waves 2 of 2014 lines in 2015?
thanks

We don't have anything planned right now, but that could change before the year is over. We'll probably see a second Horror series and maybe some additions to the Universal Monsters line. But again, nothing set in stone.

Thanks for the response. Just curious, it seems like some of these were designed to have 2nd series... especially Buffy & NBX by including some secondary characters over main characters. Was the plan always to have 2nd series... you guys just want to spread them over time? Thanks

Many of them were meant to have a 2nd series. And many will eventually. We'll probably see a 2nd series for NBX and several others in time. Some others may not get a 2nd series due to sales. Not that any of the ReAction figures have been peg-warmers, but some have had softer sales than others, and that usually clues us in on what people really want.

Love the ReAction line. Have gotten a lot of great figures since they launched. I was wondering, if a license had a small line in the 80's (something along the lines of TRON as an example), does that preclude it from ever getting a superior ReAction treatment?

Thanks for taking the time to read!

Not necessarily. Remco released Universal Monsters back in the early 80s, but we still decided to give it the ReAction treatment anyway. Something like Tron, for example, IF we ever did it, would be sort of our take on the figures, a "what would Kenner have done" sort of thing. Theres a few lines that briefly appeared in the 80s that didn't get the best treatment that we'd love to breathe new life into.

That's great news and exactly what I think a lot of fans want to hear. The Universal Monsters are some of my favorite of the entire ReAction line up, though I have a feeling the Jaws figures may be even better. Thanks for responding.

Reis, this is EXACTLY the experience I had with Buckaroo Banzai toys as a kid. I was certain there HAD to be some. Asked at toy stores weekly. Put them on every holiday wish list. Nothing ever materialized.

I can't imagine there's enough interest in this line to sell a ReAction series. Which is a shame.

Reis,

With the announcement the video game lines that will be getting the pop treatment, is there any potential for these to cross over into the ReAction/Legacy lines? I'm specifically interested in Skyrim, Fallout and Bioshock lines. I could also see doing Assassin's Creed in ReAction style (unless it interferes with the McFarlane License). Also, has Funko looked at getting the Destiny license for Pops/Action Figures?

PS- Funko needs to get the license back for Halo and do more Pops, Wobblers, Plush/Fabrikations, Legacy, ReAction, Hikari figures.

Hey Ross! There are no plans at this moment to do any modern video games as ReAction. I would worry a little that the form factor of vintage style figures won't make much sense with the younger generation that typically plays these games. The sense of nostalgia may be lost on them, and the figures will be interpreted as "over-simplified, badly articulated" figures.

I've noticed that the people who just don't "get" ReAction tend to be of a younger generation, and they just don't have a frame of reference. It's sort of like when I got a set of Lincoln Logs when I was a kid and thought they were lame compared to my Lego sets, and my parents were like, "But Lincoln Logs are a classic!" So I just used them as battlefield barriers for my GI Joes to hide behind. ;)

I'm not sure if we have looked into getting Destiny. Although I admit that their characters look awesome!

I like the perfect simplicity of the reaction line, the card backs, the size, when i was a kid at christmas one of the coolest things was looking at the pkg size, knowing it was either a g.i.joe or a star wars figure, that sounds silly, but my point is I love nostalgia, and that's what reaction figs do for me..and more, because I'm getting figures I wished they'd done when I was 8 years old..back in good ol 1985..

Reis, has there been any consideration of doing a reaction treatment for 80s toys like the tonka STEEL MONSTERS line,or remcos figures of Hercules, warlord, skullman, craven, etc? Or,even the dungeons and dragons figures like warduke(i only had 3 of these when i was a kid so i don't remember all the figures names)but, there was a knight, and this gremlin looking dude in black with a green face?

I know funko wouldnt out right answer me if they were going to do it but are Hercules and Xena even a possibility for this line (or any other) for funko? I think the nostalgia factor is perfect.

I think Halo would actually work well for ReAction. They would almost have an old GI Joe feel to them. the old Hasbro GI Joes had more articulation than ReAction I believe though? The rest of the modern video games would need to be in the Legacy format most likely.

Definitely look into Destiny for Legacy and Pops. It's a HUGE new franchise with some great character designs. 3A is doing some 1:6 Figures but that is all I have heard as far as collectibles go.

If a line like Firefly or ALIEN where only a couple core characters are missing were to have "soft" (but not terrible) sales, would Funko consider looking into others ways of releasing the remaining couple characters such as a pre-order like the ALIEN Playset or as a Convention exclusive? Personally I'd worry that not completing smaller sets would lead to more people waiting around for a second series before they buy.

No, we haven't thought about re-doing those lines. We have much larger licenses that never got toy lines that we'd rather focus on.

The production costs on a completely new figure would not merit limiting it to a convention exclusive, and we're currently not looking into setting up some sort of pre-order system. But again, and I can't stress this enough, waiting for a second series before you buy the first series doesn't help getting a second series made. If people want a line to succeed, then they should just start supporting it from the beginning.

Do you know when we will be able to buy these? Last year they went up for pre-order right around Toy Fair. Are we going to see a similar experience again?

I did like that format since I was able to order all the ones I was interested in and saved some money on shipping costs. I still haven't seen these much at retail in the Atlanta area, online is really my best option.

If you made a Bran Stark legacy figure, would he be packaged by himself with an accessory or two? In other words, even though he's cripple, would he be packaged as though he were not? (same movable joints.) Or would he be put into the same package as a Hodor, or even attached to Hodor?

I personally would prefer he be standalone.

Please take Xena and Hercules off your radar and put them into planning and production ASAP! It's Xena's 20th anniversary this year, which could be a way for Funko to enhance the marketability of some Xena: Warrior Princess "ReAction" figures.

The never released "Xena and Gabrielle" two-pack of 5" action figures from the original Toy Biz line is a pretty cool indication of what would be possible utilising the ReAction style:

Obviously separate with a wooden wheelbarrow accessory. I mean.... duh! But more importantly, Im curious if something like this, or more appropriately worded, is a deluxe line of reactions something thats been looked into? like bigger accessories, playsets, or larger figures?

Yes, we've had several conversations about playsets, larger accessories, vehicles and larger figures. But those are a ways off for the most part.

Yes, that was disappointing. There was also a 6" deluxe Iolaus and Gabrielle two-pack that was cancelled. Not to mention all the cancelled 12" figures, including Xena and Argo and the "Fallen Angel". And there were also the cancelled (but never revealed) prototypes for Joxer and two assortments which were to be released under the taglines "Egyptian Series" and "Warrior Series". Toy Biz really handled the line poorly. What kind of company releases a "domestic violence/attempted murder victim" variant of a beloved character along with a figure of the young demonic daughter that she killed multiple times?

HAHAH! I have those! can you imagine how much better funko could do with this property?

Hi Reis, I'm new to the boards and wanted to thank you for being so responsive and open to the fans here. I'm a big fan of the Reaction line and I'm really looking forward to the lines that were recently announced, above all the Dark Crystal. What I love most about the Reaction line is how, with Alien and Dark Crystal, fans finally get the toys they've seen in pictures in magazines etc. but were never expecting to actually materialize in a million years! I'm so excited about that!

I had some burning Reaction related questions that I was hoping you would have the answers to.

If the property called for it, would you ever consider stepping away from the Star Wars Kenner build and maybe do a line in a different scale or even material? Let's say you would do new Indiana Jones figures for instance, would you ad the extra leg joints to keep in spirit with the "what would Kenner do" motto?

I noticed that the right hand of the Kane figure from the first alien wave is sculpted in such a way that it would seem the figure was originally intended to come with an accessorie. Is this true and if so, are there any pictures of this accessorie?

Thanks and keep the cool stuff coming!

Yes, we have talked about the possibility of adding knee joints and looking at other innovations in toy design that occurred during the 80s (action features, soft goods, etc.), but at this time, we're still mainly interested in maintaining the look and feel of Kenner circa 1978-80ish. We may revisit those innovations in the future, but no solid plans yet. Still, if a certain license practically demanded it...

Kane's hands were designed like that just to keep within the vintage figure aesthetic. He was never meant to come with an accessory, but that shouldn't stop you from giving him Jason Voorhees's machete or Oz's guitar. And you might as well let him ride Marty McFly's skateboard, too.

I've been pushing to get a couple more versions of Jason made, but nothing set in motion yet. I feel sorry for your little toy campers. They're doomed.
