DIY Freddy Funko
It just went up on sale on Funko's shop. I got myself. Limited to 1000. Can't wait to get it in my hands. I might go with a Joker theme for the paint job.

Nice hawkman. Are you going to paint it? Where about in So Cal? I'm out in OC.

Not a pop, there are other sections on the board you should visit though, lots of cool stuff to see and read... but yeah, its cool, and very glad to hear you plan to customize it. I feel that it being limited, as many others have said, will result and many of these not being touched and just left in the box looking all white.

Yeah, not a Pop, but also not a Hikari nor Wobbler nor mini. What would the community suggest as a good home for this thread? Also, while many agree it's not a Pop, I was able to accomplish what I had in mind and that was to bring this to the attention of this community and hopefully some collectors would be able to get their hands on a new item.
Now back to the focus of this thread. To paint or not to paint?

To that point, there is a "other discussions" thread, and an "Eye on the web" thread for new items on website. Which currently has a discussion going re: this item/topic. Just an FYI.

Re: DIY Freddy Funko
I think I narrowed down how I might attempt the DIY part. Thinking either Texas Longhorns or Houston Astros if go with the sports theme, or Drake Sinclair from the Sixth Gun if I go comics. The trouble is I'm not very artistic.

Go Royals!
For either of the sports ones I think you could just do the color scheme and then slap a sticker on his shirt if you don't feel comfortable doing a logo. Or for the Longhorns you could trace a sticker and then take it off and you'd have the logo.
I'm thinking about doing Leonardo, but I have zero artistic ability so I may have a friend do it. Stinks they only made 1,000 of these.

Thanks for the tips. I am thinking the sports, specifically the Longhorns, would be easier. My initial play was to put a sticker on the shirt, paint the shirt burnt orange, and then remove the sticker. I hope I'm brave enough to give it a whirl. I might pick up a DIY Pop! to try first and hone my skills a bit.

Mine's staying in the box....however, if I were to paint it, it would be with acrylic.

I think I'm going to wait and see what other people do/use and then I'll decide. It's probably staying in the box, but I may change my mind especially if there is a DIY Freddy contest for Fundays

Re: DIY Freddy Funko
If anyone was curious.. there are a few difference between the DIY Retro Freddy and the Retro Freddy prototype.
The DIY is lighter by 77g, rounder, shorter, and made of plastic (instead of vinyl). His head is more spherical and less lumpy. He also has shorter/stubbier arms, seams going around the sides, no articulation, slightly different parts of clothing, and a different stamp on the bottom of his feet (proto says http://www.funko.com and diy says funko llc 2016/www.funko.com/made in china).
Nena (@thequeenofgates, 3D sculptor/illustrator/designer at Funko) said, "In case you were wondering, it's a re-sculpt (sort of). We had to redo the mold and I wasn't really happy with the first sculpt (I was pretty new at the time, and I've since gotten better over the years). The rotating arms were more of a side effect than a feature, so they weren't added to the new version."

Interesting that they redid the sculpt, thanks for sharing, Kevin! What's everyone's thoughts on plastic vs vinyl? I feel like vinyl is preferable but is plastic easier to customize?

I like the updated sculpt. His body and arms and face have all been tweaked. Little Freddy's been eating his Wheaties.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share this info Kevin!! I was very curious to see what the overall differences ended up being. The weight is a dead giveaway for sure...the plastic feels so much lighter than the vinyl... Thanks again

So I think I saw one boardies custom. Has anyone else broken into the box and started to work on a project? I have to fulfill my arts through people with actual skills because lopsided stick figures are about the best I can do. I'd love to see what has been done.

I know what I want to do with mine, but I have yet to attempt a custom and want this to turn out well. I plan on reading some of the tips in the forums and hopefully starting it in the next couple of weeks. I will definitely post pictures when it is finished, even if it doesn't look at all like I planned.
