Re: Anybody else want Spaceballs POPS??
Now this is part of my wish list for Funko to make into pop form. Such great characters that many can relate too. I think they could do a flocked Barf with a pop ride of the Winnebago.

Re: Anybody else want Spaceballs POPS??
being such a major pop culture classic, i can't believe it hasn't happened already.
I'd even settle for them in Soda Form. Just imagine squeezing Dark Helmet's head into that can! And the chase could be... visor up.

Welp Folks... We can officially put this wish to bed. Mel Brooks has a new biography out and within those pages, he talks about how he was able to get George Lucas' blessing to create Spaceballs. Bottom line, Lucas said "No Toys". If you don't wish to read the biography in it's entirety, here's a nifty little article on MSN that gives a brief overview of how Spaceballs was allowed...

Thanks for this! I was gonna say the parody film itself was fine for the time and it was a classic but I've NEVER seen much if anything in the way of licensed merch and I figured this was why...I knew Mel actually spoke with Lucas to get his blessing I did not know he said that, not disappointed the film was enough

I'm pretty sure they even directly referenced this in the movie, all the "merch" couldn't be Toy related

Just saw this thread pop up and wanted to add my 2 cents. Maybe they can't do the original, but it would really funny if they did "Spaceballs: The Sequel" pops!! Maybe fewer licensing issues there!

Was just watching A New Hope the other night on TNT, and thought that would be an awesome line. Especially a set where they are combing the desert.

There was a scene in the movie about spaceballs merchandise I think that was a dig at George Lucas and the fact they couldn’t actually make any

It's because when it was made Mel Brooks asked George Lucas blessing to make it. George was totally cook with it as long as they didn't make any toys (to avoid any confusion with Star Wars). That's why they made the jokes about the toys in the movie too.
Funny fact about the movie... Lucas didn't want Lone Star dressed Han Solo, so Mel Brooks dressed him like Indiana Jones.

He definitely is. Too bad we never got a sequel. But he said he wouldn't make one unless Rick Moranis was part of it (he retired from acting).
