Shipping to a different Country?

Postby jason3535 » Mon Aug 03, 2015 7:09 pm

I'm gonna sell something but the other person is in a different country (Canada). This is my first time shipping out of the country and need all help possible. Would it be better if I use UPS or USPS? Does anybody know the estimate it would cost? I could use any advice. Thanks!

Being a Canadian I always like when Americans ship by USPS. UPS and FedEx usually come with customs fee. I have a guy I regular trade with and he usually send me stuff first class international usps. Always ask for tracking number so the buyer can follow the process of the shipment. It cost me about $10-15 to ship to the U.S.

So I should ship through USPS, and I should charge $10-15 to Canada? I'm sorry i'm asking these noob questions. I've sold within the United States but not to Canada

It should be about $12 IIRC

You can weigh it out and calculate the exact cost here:

Yah I would let the buyer know how much shipping is for, if they agree they shouldn't have a problem of paying shipping. Also would recommend stating the value is under $100 or say it's a gift.

I try to put in the zip code but since the zip code has letters, it doesn't allow me. What do I do know?

You have to change to the country to Canada in the dropdown on the top of the screen and then it takes the zip code part off the screen

If you're selling via PayPal as goods, I believe you have to send via Priority Mail International, because you need to have delivery confirmation for seller protection.

IIRC, First Class International does not provide tracking updates once it crosses the border.

Basically, the buyer could open a case against you and you couldn't prove delivery.

That is correct, sending first class does not have any tracking. I recently sent something to Brazil and I think I was told that even with Priority I still wouldn't get tracking. You are able to send 1st class when an item is under 4 pounds.

I am a fan of Priority International for all out of the country transactions that I send out via USPS. It gets there reasonably fast and you get decent tracking. Worth the extra expense in my book.
