Why is SDCC 2015 Regina SO EXPESNIVE!!!

Postby BeefyPenguin » Wed Sep 02, 2015 8:57 am

Anybody else surprised how much the 2015 SDCC version of Regina is going for? If you did know it is going for 150-200 bucks on ebay! I didn't get lucky enough to get her on Gemini or anywhere else, so I was hoping her price tag would fall, but it does not look like it will.

I know she is a 1008 LE, but she is the only 1008 piece that I know of that the price tag is that high and is not super old. There are even pretty popular 480 or even 240 LE that are cheaper.

Her and the 12th doctor spacesuit were my favorite two, at least I got the doctor. And Congrats to all the funatics and not the flippers that was able to snag themselves one of these! SUPER jealous!

I was so angry about this too! Regina was one of the only SDCC exclusives I wanted, and I was so mad when she wasn't one of the ones released in stores. I was going to 100% the OUAT series, but I can't afford $200 for one Pop! ](*,)

Sometimes (most) it's all about character and not edition size.

Your post is exactly why. Everyone wants her right now. I didn't think the series was that popular (I watch it and was lucky enough to grab her off gemini). I was shocked when before SDCC how many people said they wanted her.

And I think part of the reason she is so high is because unlike the other 2015 SDCC LE 1008 (12th Doctor, Lightning McQueen, Unmasked Jason, Anger) she wasn't released in other markets. The entire Pop world is fighting over an actual 1008 pieces this time.

And because the Pop is super awesome. The detail on it wow. Got mine in a nice safe pop protector.

the first season was pretty good, I felt like the show is going down hill, but Lana Parrilla (regina) steals the show away IMO.

I wasnt going to get her, but then right before SDCC I started to watch the show, since people on here were talking about and then everything changed. I was able to get her the first time she went up on Gemini

Yes she does. And thats why every fan wants her Pop. Plus people are willing to pay these prices.

There are some down times in the show I admit but what I like most about it is they do not draw out story lines. For example they could have made the whole last season about the frozen characters but it progressed and they added the author story line and Evil trio. I think that help keeps it fresh.

I can be honest and say I think it only has 1 or two more seasons before they either choose to end it (the right way for fans) or it gets cancelled for viewership waning.

Id say two seasons would be right, 3 seasons at max since 7 is the big number for contracts.

Tho it should only take 2 more seasons to deal with the Dark One completely

Because she just looks so damn good!! I have never even watched the show and I found myself wanting that Pop lol So you've got fans and even non-fans (and flippers -___-) trying to get their hands on one of only 1008 in the world :(
Unfortunately at this point it doesn't look like she's ever going to become widely available so I'm going to settle for the regular version, which still has beautiful detail!

Unfortunately and simply the demand is way more than the supply. I thought that by hunting early I could avoid what happened with the Headless Ned that was released a year before I started collecting, but no. Regina was hot since day one and I'll have to settle with a regular version next month.

If you've ever been to the OUAT panel at SDCC, you'd know why. The fans are VERY crazed about the show. Last year they gave away pins to everyone who attended the panel and while I like the show, I didn't want to collect any pins so sold it on eBay and it went for around $75. For a pin?!?! And some of the others pins (they gave away several different ones) sold for more.

Very dedicated fan base + low edition size (plus Regina is 1 of the best characters) and that equals $$$ for her POP. Plus she is very cool looking. Very happy I was able to score her at SDCC. She and flocked Snuffy were my 2 had to gets!

This was exactly how bloody Hannibal was at this time last year. Then he magically appeared on popcultcha site and Forbidden Planet site some 6 months or more after comic con and over night prices plummeted by 60% or more. So like always if you are waiting for her - keep your fingers crossed she shows up across the pond and if you are one of the ones who dropped big bucks on her - keep your fingers crossed you didn't severely overpay for a soon to be not so rare pop.

I just did a quick look on ebay and what available right now is a bit high, if you look at what's previously sold its around $50. Most of the LE 1008 that came out this go for around 50 bucks or even more. So his pricing for ebay is around there.

I was a bit surprised at escalating her price at first but everyone above is right. I got her from a vendor at the Con for $40 after trying and failing miserably to get into Funko and I don't regret paying the $40 anymore

I can't imagine it'll get much higher than that and suspect the price will start dropping when the regular Regina is released. The heart in her hand is cool but seriously, is that and a little glitter on the dress worth paying 150+ more than the 10.00 version? I suspect a lot of people will say "no". I think some of the buyers think that REGINA is an SDCC exclusive rather than this VERSION of her.

One of the driving factors is likely that OUaT is quite popular but there is not that much merchandise for it. Some posters and such mainly. I was lucky to get her at Gemini when she first went up at $39.99. Most I have ever paid for a POP.

Of course it isn't, some exclusives have very cool designs but in the end the price spike is based on the value people put on the "sticker" which in turn indicates limited supply, in this case 1008, and means the completists and huge fans of the show/character will have more competition while bidding. Definitely people are not paying $150 for a little bit of glitter

No it's the same mold, just different colors. If you're referring to the shoulder "wings" they are on the SDCC version too, they just don't show on the glam:

Image

So the dress is a different color, the SDCC version has some glitter on it, and she has a heart in her hand rather than an apple. Those are the differences. Worth 150+ difference? Time will tell, but probably not. Again I will say that it is my belief that a lot of the people that are driving the cost up don't realize there is an unlimited release Regina on the way (not everyone is on these forums and as well-educated on Pops as we are), they think this is their one and only shot at getting a Regina Pop. Once the regular release comes out and people realize they can get a Regina for under 10 bucks, I'm guessing the SDCC version price will drop. Probably a lot.

Shadow Trooper is black with silver eyes and costs $800-$1000 vs a $10 storm trooper. A Lexus (for most models) are the same frame as the Toyota, has a slightly beefier engine, some nice tech things, maybe leather seats, and costs THOUSANDS more. Supply and Demand. Why the hell is someone going to pay $200-$1000+ on a pair of designer jeans, purse, shoes vs a target version that functions exactly the same with just subtle differences.

I also hate to say it, the price isn't going to drop as much as you think. Look at some of the vault SW pieces where it really is just a difference of box color and heck the new ones are higher quality. Yet the price hasn't dropped much if it all (except for Greedo, which is proof people don't care about Greedo). Or heck ECCC storm troopers where you can custom make yourself a pair for $40 vs the $350 the pair sells for right now. The only difference being a box.

I imagine she will drop but remain high. Probable at least $40 or $50. Shadow Troopers are high because a LOT of Star Wars fans really like that design. I used to collect Hasbro/Kenner SW figures and they would go nuts over Shadow Stormtroopers. I often wonder if people Army Build POPs? For the Hasbro/Kenner It is not uncommon for people to buy multiples (sometimes hundreds, crazy) of Stormtroopers, Battle Droids, etc... Big fandoms like Star Wars I think can drive up the price more so.

The reason I like the variant so much is because she is holding a heart. I love that. Design wise, I actually like the dress on the common pop better. So I will get that one too :)
