Foot Stamp Registry (Help Stop Scammers)

Postby Typale » Wed Aug 17, 2016 9:32 pm

Hey Everyone! In an attempt to help people not be scammed I'm going to be starting a "Funko Pop! Registery."

I need all of your help as well! In an effort to get as many plausible foot stamps I am asking everyone that has a spare minute to take a picture of your Chase, Limited, Exclusive, or any other Variant Pop and even commons help so we know what can be used as a scam! Please help out.

Post Pictures in comments with the name of your pop and I will start documenting foot stamps, pops, and have it cross referenced with the person who sent the picture as well as all other pics of the same Funko Pop since a lot of chases do have multiple foot stamps!

If this is not allowed or has to be moved to another section I am sorry and will do whatever is needed!

This is great for out of box collectors, but in the box collectors won't be able to benefit from this if they never remove the figure from its box.

Is this really going to work though? I'm pretty sure I've seen some fakes with numbers on the feet too. Not too hard to copy a number.

I have 150 so far and honestly there isn't a guarantee to anything. Its just one more form of checking that scammers might not be able to pull off a copy of. Flashpoint batman and SDCC Blacksuit Batgirl are two I've personally seen fakes of more then once and the foot stamp being that of a normal chase or blue suit was an immediate giveaway.

I just feel the more information known the better chase of everyone, specially new collectors, have at making informed decisions and purchases.

HA... I even wrote the title and after posting kept wondering if i spelled it wrong when I glanced.

Thanks for the well wishes and ya it does seem like a ton of work but I figure focusing on the metallics and ones that scammers repaint is the best starting route just to get more knowledge on correct look and and number.

My first thought when I saw this thread was those Gold GS fakes. I had a Gold Power Armor I traded and it was real, but right after I traded the fake gold Pops exploded on the scene. It's one thing to make a custom and an entirely different thing to pass them off as authentic.

I like the registry idea. It does seem like one more line of defense against fake Pops, but it is a giant undertaking. I commend anyone who wants to try to help other collectors out.

Would this thread also help a scammer? They could have a fake account and have access to these photos/info in this thread?

Absolutely.
Open spreadsheet is bad. The information would need to be encrypted, and have the user input their foot stamp into a form that then tells them which pop that stamp is for.

Aren't there multiple stamps for multiple figures? Like i have 2 BB-8, one made in China, the other Vietnam. I think the Vietnam version is slightly bigger. Not sure if they're schedule stamped the same.

It's a HUGE undertaking and props to you if you can get it done.

Have to give you the credit because you stated it first! Glad to know I was not the only one to think food stamps. This is a cool idea. Wonder if they had any luck with this? Personally I absolutely despise flippers!!! The only thing worse then a flipper is someone trying to scam people! Unfortunately as long as the value of pops rise, demand rises the scamming and flipping will only get worse. So the more we know the better we can protect one another.
