Re: The Mummy (2017) *Tom Cruise Pop Cancelled*
I would think the POPs are so stylized that likeness would not be an issue. It is not identifiable as Tom Cruise. From what I understand it is not an issue in cases like this. I am guessing it was Universal bowing to his wishes rather than him having any power on his own. He needs to get over himself.

He won't get to go on the space ship if there are pops of him floating around, obviously.

Aw, that's such a shame. I really like Tom and I was really pleased there would be a pop of him finally.
I guess I should stop holding out hope for an Ethan Hunt pop, huh?

What's funny is that this Pop still shows up in my system at work as having some on order, but I'm guessing those will be cancelled when the time comes.

Edge of Tomorrow was a good one. I'm not a huge fan of his, but loved that movie.

Really unfortunate to have him cancel his own pop. Would've much preferred the original Mummy line

LEGO did release an Ethan Hunt set for LEGO Dimensions. The game even uses clips of his dialog from the movie for the character in the game. So maybe he doesn't have a say over MI?

Re: The Mummy (2017) *Tom Cruise Pop Cancelled*
The contracts that actors have with movies vary from case to case. Often, an actor signs away their likeness to the movie studio to then license movie toys out (e.g. the myriad of, say, "Suicide Squad" stuff).
In the case of old movies where such details were never written into the contracts, and/or cases where such agreements/contracts have long since expired, then deals have to be struck both with the rightsholder of the franchise itself (a movie, TV show, etc.) as well as the person/actor.
Normally, I'd say a bit tentpole Universal monster film would have all of the merchandising stuff built into the contracts. But Cruise typically demands much more direct control.
That Cruise would now sign away his merchandising rights to Universal for this film is not surprising. What *is* surprising is that the figure got through the prototype phase and got to the point of promo photos of the figure being released. Only thing I can think of is that Universal and Cruise agreed to it, and then someone (much more likely Cruise than Universal) changed their mind at the eleventh hour.

When they're talking about signing away one's "likeness", they mean it in the most basic contractual sense. If it's a figure from a Cruise movie that is supposed to be Cruise's character, then it requires the rights to his likeness, however much the sculpt/figure doesn't actually look like him.
So if they do a "Jyn Erso" Pop with a Star Wars logo on it, but she has pink hair and is wearing a potato sack, it still requires the rights to that actress's likeness.
I'm guessing Cruise, unlike most actors who probably *have* to sign away their likeness as part of their movie contract (I don't think Margot Robbie would find some of the cheapie Mattel "Suicide Squad" toys very flattering), has the clout and/or is eccentric enough to require approval rights on any merchandise and/or toys.
As mentioned previously, that Cruise would balk is not surprising. What's surprising is that the Pop figure got this far along before being pulled.

Sometimes I forget Tom Cruise is kinda crazy, then something like this happens. But considering the movie isn't good and Ahmanet is the best part about it, this line may be better off. On the other hand, I'm all in for Brendan Fraser Mummy Pops.

I definitely agree, I ran across it on my TV guide the other day and had to rewatch it. I heard there will be part 2. So excited for that if it comes true!

After watching the movie last night, I really wish the Nick Morton Pop wasn't cancelled. I really liked the movie despite what the reviews say and thought it really blended horror, action and humor pretty well. I don't get the gripes of it since I thought the movie was pretty on par with the Fraser films, just set in modern day.

Every time I hear some weird news about Tom Cruise, I immediately think about those pictures that went around showing he has a weird middle tooth. I wish funko made pops showing teeth if only to depict this.

I was surprised there was even a reboot to begin with. But I'm definitely gonna stop by the theater to see The Mummy.

Wish I could find one, I seem to be in the minority of enjoying quite a few Tom Cruise movies like Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion, Knight & Day, and the last couple of mission impossibles. I understand there's no use of his likeness in figures due to is beliefs, but would really like any Tom Cruise pop.

I'm sure it was already thought of and concepted. But how cool would a Tom Cruise MIssion Impossible Action Pose POP be of him hovering over the floor. Well now that I think about it, you'd just see the top of a POP head

Re: The Mummy (2017) *Tom Cruise Pop Cancelled*
I call BS on it being canceled. There are a couple on eBay as has already been mentioned, plus there are eBay auctions for Ahmanet and the Mummy that show pictures of the back of the box and Nick Morton is shown on all of the boxes. Surely if there was some kind of licensing issue then they would've had to have changed the boxes for Ahmanet and the Mummy as well. I know there is an article about it, but hey, can you believe everything you read on the Internet?
I just saw the movie with my girlfriend, we both liked it but it wasn't spectacular or anything. I thought they tried too hard to make it funny, and most of the one-liners just fell completely flat. They did a fantastic job with the zombies though, and Ahmanet stole the show.

I don't necessarily think the movie will suck. Especially not with the promise of an extended monster movie universe. I don't think it will be as iconic as the 1999 movies though.
Saw the movie tonight and I LOVED IT. It was so good. I hope it makes lots of money to continue the other stories.
