When I met my boyfriend he had told me how he used to collect comics. The first birthday we spent together I bought him a set of Marvel Zombies comics. It got him back into collecting and got me into it as well. After going to comic shops and cons we noticed Funko was everywhere, eventually it just led to collecting pops as well. Our first Christmas together we bought each other Funkos Pops and comics, even got some for other family members. Then we got into Dorbz, pint sized heroes, pocket pops, vynl, rides, funko photography and so on haha. The only other things I've ever collected in my life were Treasure Trolls, Barbies, Cabage Patch kids, and Care Bears all of which I have lost over the course of time. That's my story

My mom bought me an unmasked Deadpool and The Rock in August 2015 for my 20th birthday. After that it was game over, I just went really, really crazy with them

Re: How'd you get started collecting Funko Pops?
I'd seen them while out and about at stores like Barnes and Noble. I never really paid them much attention; I thought they'd be a fad for a time and then peter out. But one day I noticed they had Star Trek ones, which my friend was a big fan of, so I got him some. And I remember seeing the joy on his face at getting them; he said they were so unique and unlike any other ST merch at the time.
Cut to a few months later. I was a big fan of Pirates of the Caribbean, and I got the original Jack Sparrow Pop for my birthday. The more I held it, the more I really liked the way it looked, and the fun, unique take on the character. It really made me happy to look at. Added to the fact that it was given to me by someone very special, who at the time was sick, and had gone out of their way to get it for me because they knew it would make me happy. I started to look into this strange company I'd never heard of before called "Funko". I saw some of their other Pop lines and saw they had Game of Thrones, which I was just starting to get into. I started collecting those, as it was really the only GOT figures at the time. Before I knew it, I had about two or three waves of GOT Pops. And then I saw they had DC Pops, and they were doing characters that weren't often represented with alot of merch, and I had to get those too. And well, it spiraled out of control from there. Now I have almost 1000 pieces, with many more to come!
Pops have really been a bright spot in my life. They give me something to look forward to, and, as strange as it sounds, they really bring me so much joy to look at. As a nerd, I love the depth that Funko goes to in bringing a license to life; they do characters that many other lines wouldn't think profitable enough, and the time it takes to manufacture them seems to be rather short in comparison to other companies, so my desire for something new is always satiated, versus something being unveiled and then having to wait a year for it. The quality control is great across the board, with little to no risk of any parts breaking off. And, most importantly, they're affordable for nerds like myself who are always kinda tight on money but need their fix regardless. They're kinda the perfect collectible!

I blame my friend who bought me a Michonne Walking Dead pop. Then the addiction got worse when I first found out about Chases.

I was at Comikaze back in 2012 and ran into some friends who just purchased Pops from Fugitive Toys. I immediately beelined it to their booth and saw the Sanrio Pops - it was at that very moment when my eyes laid on them that I was hooked! I came back the next day with cash in hand and purchased the entire Sanrio set along with Disney, Star Wars, & DC.

Hello, I'm Ailyne!Disney, Star Wars, DC, repeat.

Re: How'd you get started collecting Funko Pops?
I just posted about this in my intro, but it seemed applicable to share here too. I'm a newer collector -- and to be honest, while I fell in love with Funko a long time ago, but I resisted it. I feel like my mom's shaming of my dad (who loved to collect lots of things) made me feel like I shouldn't collect "toys" as an adult, even if I loved them, even if they made me happy. But my daughter is where it all really started for me. She is a huge Pop collector, so my husband and I have bought many Funko gifts for her - birthdays, Christmas, etc. Through the many, many searches for her, my own collecting started out by picking up ones that I liked that were on clearance at various stores - Target, Walmart, Toys r Us, etc. My first Pop was Frank Walker from Tomorrowland for $2.98 from the Disney Store. Even with just buying discounted Pops, my collection has been growing and while I still love to find a bargain, I'm happy to pay full price for the ones I just have to have (and I'm proud to be an adult who collects "toys" too!).

I’m a huge Disney fan so the Disney pops are what drew me in to add to my collection of other pieces. I have well over 100 pops plus 100s of others with minis and dorbz.

I have been a Star Wars fan most of my life, and Force Awakens had my so excited after growing up with the prequels
For Force Friday that year, I went all in with Pops, and it was quite a stepping stone to all of the pops that are out there.

I think I was really hyped up for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1. I remember I saw the lineup at toy fair for New York. I knew I had to get all of them once they came out. After I saw the movie, I had to get all the guardian wave and the rest was history.

Re: How'd you get started collecting Funko Pops?
My friend gave me my first Pop as a housewarming present, a Daenerys Targaryen common in December 2015. I thought it was a little odd, but it was kinda cool. I didn’t even think to look if there were other Pops since I never heard of them before. Then during SDCC 2016, Conan gave away Funko Pops for the first time and I had to have them. One night during comic con I started looking up different Pops and realized how many there were and that I needed so many. I think I bought 50 Pops in the next few days and now here I am, a couple years and 1,000+ Pops later...
