Re: To encase or not to encase?
Depends. A lot of my displays are open box as I just some props. (My Snow White display has little fake diamonds around it.) but my more expensive pieces are all in hard cases. My ones on shelves stacked all have soft cases.

I use retro as well - they have a website and a heavy duty version of the soft protector which I like. The heavy duty ones aren't stacks, of course, but they are very sturdy and I've never worried about them getting crushed. Although, I also don't but 50LB weights on top of them either!

Barnes and Noble (surprisingly) sometimes has online sales and free shipping with orders over a certain amount. There might be a cheaper option, but I usually end up getting mine at around $5 per case.
i've been looking for the cheapest bet
ill start with barnes
When they have a good sale I but them from there. It's all about waiting for the right sale and then stocking up.
Well, they're having a Memorial Day sale, if anyone's interested.

Yes if stacking definitely place I pop protectors. When I first started collecting I stacked them again the wall and some on the bottom got damaged. Now I unbox them all to see the great designs on them

I agree with others that Retro Protection https://www.retroprotection.com is the way to go. He has a bunch of custom sizes for different shaped boxes. Warning tho, he does tend to run low closer to con season, so I'd stock up now! I like to bring them with me to protect them right after purchase.

Re: To encase or not to encase?
I tried the ones from 7 Bucks a Pop, I wasn't impressed they are slightly thinner and they put a symbol on the top which I don't like. They are cheaper though so it's a better choice than the flimsy thin ones. Overall Retro Protection is my favorite.

I only protect the pops I really like and my grails. I really don't worry to much about my commons.

Re: To encase or not to encase?
I put grails in pop stacks and leave everything else in their boxes. I don't stack them too high though. I might have to though after I organize my collection.

I know that's why I keep them nice and protected in plastic containers, so they don't get damaged.

Definitely encase your Pops! in pop protectors. Accidents do happen when you lease expect it.

I am putting all of mine in soft protectors. I agree with what others have said, you never know when an accident can happen. But honestly, to each theur own....you have to collect and do what makes you happy. I like retro protection, but sometimes on Amazon you can find a good deal on 4" soft protectors.

Re: To encase or not to encase?
Ultimately your decision because it is your collection. I have some in soft, some are in hard, and others not in anything (this also beginning to sound a bit wrong)

I put all of my pops in .50 mm protectors, from the $3 pop to the $600 pop.

alphaomega1291 wrote:I'm a relatively new collector and wondering what you guys do when it comes to encasing your pops in protectors or just stacking them on top of each other without protection? I've been putting all my pops in a protector regardless if they're "expensive" or common. I can see how that can start to get expensive given that the plastic containers range in cost from $.50-$3. Also do you prefer displaying your pops freely or in their boxes?
Here's my collection so far: https://imgur.com/a/qUp9Kr6
Nice collection! I’m definitely an Out If Box collector being I love the details on each Pop made and appreciate the work Funko has done on each Pop. However, I still keep the boxes since most of the box art is awesome artwork on it’s own. I also have some Pops in protectors when it comes to stacking them in box. But if I have space, I’ll take most of my Pops Out Of Box to display.

Which ones are the .50 mm protectors?
Google search for .50mm pop protector. They are thicker than the normal which allows one to stack them very high with no worry about the bottom collapsing. Only cost around a $1 each.

They look a lot better out of box but it’s really up to you. Many out of box them but keep the boxes stashed away and protected to avoid damage. You can always take the pop oob without damaging the box.
