Funko Pop numbering system
This is probably a newbie question, but why are the numbers on the pops not always sequential. For example, I just finished collecting all the current stranger things pops and noticed that it starts at 421-428 and then jumps to 436...then 511...then in the 600s. Is this a clue that they're going to fill in the gaps with more pops eventually? Why not just continue the numbering from 421 all the way through?

They number them in the order that sets come out. For instance Stranger Things are part of the Television series. So they get numbered according to when the sets get released. There's other sets that come out before a 2nd wave of the same show gets added on, thus why the odd looking numerical gap between waves

Also sometimes they leave a spot or two open in a wave for upcoming exclusives usually released at Cons and such.

Gotcha that makes sense. They must have some crazy system of keeping inventory across all lines.

I wonder if there are two pops from the same genre with the same number. Never took the time to do the research.

Perhaps - but sometimes their numbering system is completely screwed (see: the entire Star Wars line).

I'm really grateful I'm not one after seeing my bff suffer through the wonky numbering! Completely different pops having the same numbers.... some numbers just getting skipped.

In a thread talking about whether numbering makes sense or not, I thought I should add a comment pointing out that Pop Myths started at number 14 and to the best of my knowledge....there aren't any other released yet (are there?)

It's creative numbering. They have a number generator and it randomly give the number

What's funny (and irritating) for some ppl is when they inadvertently skip numbers or use the same number twice

I don't know is correct or not, but I think the most for Funko is only go to triple digit number. Don't think they will go to four numbers Pop!

More importantly, why do they repeat numbers in the same line? I'm looking at you, quality control for the Star Wars line. Drives me bananas!

You know I always wondered as well but never really gave it a second thought. Only time I would be reminded was when someone complains about a certain number being unused. But I lose interest and go back to whatever I'm snacking on.

I always thought that they just randomly chose a number for them, didn't know that it was a science behind it. Good information to know. T

Yes. There are many numbering errors. The one that always comes to mind for me is that the First Order Tie Pilot and Chrome Phasma have the same numbers as the celebration Luke and Han (90 and 91).

Not always, but it does happen. A lower number just means that a POP is older. Funko decides when to Vault (retire a figure). Some of the older stuff was only out for a year or two before they vaulted it and it's value has risen significantly. Some stuff is still in production and goes for retail, like teh original Vader, Yoda and Leia.

You know I always wondered as well but never really gave it a second thought. Only time I would be reminded was when someone complains about a certain number being unused. But I lose interest and go back to whatever I'm snacking on.
If that snack isn't Kevins Chili, you're doing it wrong my friend
You know, not everything is about the Office or can be relate...oh nvm, ur right, it is.

Gotcha that makes sense. They must have some crazy system of keeping inventory across all lines.
Perhaps - but sometimes their numbering system is completely screwed (see: the entire Star Wars line).
As a Star Wars collector, it bugs me so much
Hahahahahha a true collector. I’m a lil OCD I like them in order too!
