on one hand I really liked the tone and artistry of Evangelion but can we all be honest the last few episodes got wierd. Unless I missed something and need to be explained

I've done a paper on it, hahaha. I really appreciate the last two episodes and loathe the people who say skip them and go to the movie. They are weird though. Most 90s-Early 2000s Anime movies love to go completely abstract in the last 20-30 minutes

What was the paper for?

AP Psych. General study on self doubt. Was more so referenced rather than the entire paper.

My understanding was that they ran out of budget to animate further episodes, so they reused old footage and actual film scenes to finish the series out.

I'll have to see if I can find it. I have just about everything saved on drives from high school.

I managed to find Shinji and Rei at Hot Topic and Unit 01 at Box Lunch. Still no sign of Asuka but I am not worried about missing her, I have her preordered at Gamestop. They look amazing in hand, these are some phenomenal Pops.

Cptsailor hit on part of it with limited budget being a factor. It sounds like there was more to it with time constraints, no clear ending set in stone, and creator Hideaki Anno's struggle with mental illness during that period which influenced the final episodes.

It definitely gets weird toward the end, but learning about those struggles during production kinda makes me appreciate it even more.

So for my experts what should I watch next now that I finished original season. Aren't there some movies or so. Whats the right order?

There are 2 movies for the TV series. Death and Rebirth is the first movie and is simply a recap of the episodes followed by 30 mins or so of the End of Evangelion. It's really not a necessary watch. The second movie End of Evangelion acts as an alternate ending for the series after people hated the original one.

Then there are the Rebuild of Evangelion movies. 4 in total with the last one coming out later this year. It's a complete retelling of the story with new elements and characters.
