Part of me misses the old days when autographs were things of chance. I can see where is there a financial benefit to doing the way now but it's just I feel there's more memories in the past way.

Hello, about to meet Orlando Bloom and want to get my Legolas Pop signed. I do not have space to keep boxes, so I always have the figures themselves signed. This is an expensive one, though, and I want to get it done with one of my paint pens. Thinking metallic copper or green should match well. My question, though...is one type better than another as far as paint pens? I have used oil-based silver metallic before and that came out great, but for these colors I mentioned, there are not much in the way of oil-based. So I have bought some acrylic that are water-based. Was hoping someone on here could tell me if that is okay for these vinyl items? I do have a set of oil-based metallic but they do not shine nearly as good as the silver. The acrylic are much bolder, but if it is bad to use water-based acrylic instead of oil-based, I will stick with the oil-based. Thank you in advance.
Also...not sure if this should be a separate post? Or if it is okay here. If mods want to move it, please do so. Thank you!

Wow, 85 bucks - would they not be afraid no one buys? I would be so embarrassed to sit without anyone coming to my booth. But then again, I guess that is why I am not on TV.

Its crazy, I went to a con Yesterday and some of the Voice actors were charging 50 for anything not a figure, 80$ for a Pop 20 extra for a small quote 20 extra for a drawing and 40 extra for a long quote.

The guy in front of me paid 120 for auto quote and drawing.

Im not one to question how you spend your own money, If it brings you joy then go for it. I personally get autos on my pop because its fun to meet the voices of my childhood. But soon its just going to be to expensive for my to continue down this road

I love the 'pay a lot more for a couple more words.' I understand that over the long haul it is a lot more time but still....

Pricing and value is a very subjective topic some may agree or disagree with what you pay for but in all my years my motto is everyone has a price. I do agree I'll pay more for something more personal

I'm curious with the Teen Titans being at NYCC if anyone got all those autographs on one Pop.

Depends whose auto and what you consider expensive. Did you have anyone in mind? Voice actors, MCU actors, athletes, etc.? Personally, I stick to autos for only characters I really care about because it can quickly get out of my budget.

Pen type actually matters alot, Always use an oil based paint pen. regular Sharpie doesnt look as good and fades. Deco or sharpie brand Paint pen is what I always stick with. They come out clean and bright. Then you want to pick a color that stands out from the pop or matches from the pop. On my OG Goku I have orange, On my Ui goku I used Silver. I used red on my raptors Mascot (vince Carter)

Paint pen sticks out and your best to use Fine or medium tip.

Wow this is good information... Do have them have quotes too?

Some of them do, I used to be really into autographs until the price for Autos skyrocketed after Covid. With quotes being extra now for alot of VA's I dont do quotes to much anymore. Some people went way to far with quotes and had people writing paragraphs on pop which caused quotes to be charged by the number of words. Ive seen some where 1-6 words are 20$ and every 6 words after are an additional 20$.

Some people have quotes on the front window and some use the side window for quotes.

Thank you. This is great Sharpie info as I use to use just a plain ol' Sharpie. Now who would have thunk they would price gouge autographs, and per word to boot. I would be broke after all the words in my post, lol.

It depends. I''ve seen autographs as low as $60. The more famous they are they usually charge more though.

Yes, it is, lol. Mel Gibson was 550.00. Josh Brolin was 400. Orlando Bloom was 350.00. They all started lower, but for Pops, that was the pricing. For example, Mel started at 350.00. Mark Hamill starts at 400.00.

Everyone now has a 'premium' option, which means Pops. Anything not an 8x10 photograph. Which is honestly ridiculous, as they do not have to do anything different. They just sign. Some people now have 'bulky premium' which is things like helmets, a large sword, etc. They have gone the way that airlines and ticketmaster has, finding new ways to add 'tiers'. Like how TM now has premium seats, then premium aisle seats, and so on. Or airlines with far back window/aisle/middle, midcabin, etc. Problem is, we are paying it so they will keep doing it.

It's because flippers were getting them to sign tons of pops in one go and then immediately selling on eBay for minimum twice as much. If you go for autographs from smaller celebrities and voice actors they usually only do a $10 premium to get pops signed - I just attended a con a couple weeks ago and last week where base autos for 95% of the guests were $40 or $50 and pops were just $50 or $60 and it was just the mega celebrities that were charging upwards of $80.

Agreed. Flippers suck. Happens in every industry though. Books too, with people buying up all the limited editions, then selling for double or triple on ebay....so the smaller presses have caught on and now are themselves charging huge dollars. I do not get why people pay these prices. Just go get your stuff signed yourself. I am one to talk though....I paid the above prices because I simply had no other option.

I did have luck with sending something in to Dick van Dyke once. He signed my item, sent it back with a note, and refused to take my money! Love that guy.

Kind of the same. When I’m deciding on what new pops to buy I stop and think, “Do I like this character enough to pay to get it signed?” Even getting an autograph would never be an option (actor doesn’t do signings, they’ve passed away, etc.), it’s one of my filters for deciding if I really want something or if it’s just buying for the sake of buying.

same here...I only buy the Pops now if they are one that could be signed (but I get them signed on the Pop, not the boxes. So, I have to take that into consideration. if they cannot be, I look for some other item that could be signed, like a comic book, ornament, action figure, statue, etc. Pops are just great in that they are small enough for me to place around my limited-space apartment!

Same, there's just tooo many pops to grab everything, so I'd started doing the same and only buying pops that I might be able to get autographed.

No, stick with Star Wars, Marvel, Game of Thrones, HOTD, and very specific horror.

If you dont own the pop or have no interest in the media I don't think its worth doing. Signings get pricey haha

Gotcha.

I'm starting to get pops autographed so was just curious.

If you dont own the pop or have no interest in the media I don't think its worth doing. Signings get pricey haha

The prices have definitely increased since Covid. It’s hard to even get a quote/character name for the “bigger” stars without an upgrade charge. Perfect example is Ashley Echstein and Hayden Christianson. Ashley back in 2019 was a straight $100 and Hayden was usually around $200 for graph, quote, character, personalization. Now, for the same thing, Ashley is around $145-$150 and Hayden is upwards of $400. IMO is getting out of hand. Obviously they know people try to sell them after which is probably the main reason. Plus, it’s a way for the convention to make more money.

I'm so excited, in January I'll be getting my Sallah Indiana Jones pop signed by John Rhys-Davies...ok actually I bought it for my hubby and I'm excited cause he's excited but it's going to be awesome.

That's super impressive. I haven't counted mine but I would guess I probably only have about 30-50. I have lots of opporunity to get them done but I don't always think about them in time to get the pops on hand.
