Funko Meat Market

Postby RDK » Sun Nov 15, 2009 7:05 pm

I was reorganizing the collection earlier today and pulled out a few things i haven't seen in a while. Many of you, especially the newbies, may not be aware of Funko's earliest days at Comic-Con, where they set up the Funko Mart and packaged a few choice, Grade-A plastics in novel ways...

I took mine out of the packaging. I went back and forth over whether to do it or not. It was awesome having them in the stand though. That was a fun year. My first Comic Con!

I started collecting in 1999. I was 18 years old. By the time that CC came around I was like 23 or 24 and I was into partying and hanging out with my friends so I couldn't be bothered with collecting at that time because I was figuring out who I was. I still had all my Funko, it just wasn't displayed and I didn't actively pursue any new stuff. I really regret that because all the stuff I really love and want is from that time period. Once I settled down into my current relationship I picked right back up and came back swinging harder than ever. I also stopped playing hockey for that time period too. I sacrificed both of my hobbies to "party". That's my story :D

It was interesting to read a bit more about Jennifer. I think there should be a new thread where the Elders can tell their "Funko Story" to the Newbies. How their collecting came to be since Funko wasn't really on the shelves of major stores during the "early" years, how you kept in contact before the Funatic site, the first piece, etc.

Pity we can't do it with a fire and smores. Stories are always better with fire and hot things on a stick.

Don't forget the bagged exclusives came in different header card colors so you have to get 3 of each to collect them all!
