Bring back the NODNIKS!

Postby swobobafett » Sun May 09, 2010 11:27 pm

I thought these guys were awesome and am sad that the line appears to be dying. I was really looking forward to Thor/Hulk, Thing/Dr Doom and other releases in the future. Just thinking about the painted protos they had on display at Comic Con last year, got me sadder.

I'm guessing they just didn't sell well or connect to the toy community. What were your thoughts on the Nodniks?

I liked them OK, but I think Funko kinda got the bus with this type toy a bit late.

not a huge Fan, it wasn't something Brian really wanted to do but everyone else was talking about them so he let them go ahead and try it! kind of late in the game so they just never caught anyone's attention. I did like the finks and Flintstones, but that was about it!

I think Funko made the right decision to cancel them. I agree with dustman's opinion... the personalities are kind of lacking. My favorite nodnik's were Kroffty's Kreations. Now there was some personality!! Funko should put Kroffty in charge of the nodniks.

Some were good, but most of them lacked character depth. They all looked the same with a different paint job. I love the ones I have, but do not have all of them.

Didn't think I'd like them - then I got my Rat Fink set!
Perfect for the Finks!
I'd be up for another couple of color variations on the Finks . . . then let 'em go off into the sunset.

To tell the truth, the only ones I really, really liked were the customs.

I think that Brian & Funko should still sell the blank ones and there would probably be an interesting community of customizers that could develop. Perhaps once a year, that group could vote on their favorite ones, and whichever gets the most votes gets made for a small production run, maybe sold only through the Funatic Store.

Just a thought

I was not real sure about them at first. When I saw them in person I liked them more, but only certain ones. The customs are out of this world though. So maybe if they just made the blanks for people to do customs they would survive as a medium. I agree with Debbie, they may have been a little late to the game on that platform. Seems other similar figures like the Dunnys, Qees and Trexis have all lost some of their popularity.

I tried to get something going with the blanks by having custom contests and offering prizes but there was not much interest outside of Kroffty who bought a large chunk of my remaining stock before the remainder went to Jim. I don't think it's likely Brian will make more for just a couple of people.

I would just be happy if they just released the remaining Marvel sets that were planned. Even through the club or something.

I agree, although making your own customs is great fun.
I think its great though that Funko is always inovative, thinking "out of the square" and constantly experimenting. Way to go !

Don't want to offend the Nodnik collectors, but would it be a good idea to have a Pop! Chat instead? Or maybe we could have both? :-k

Don't the POP! fall under the Vinyl section? Especially since they were originally called Funko Force 2.0?

Maybe there could be a retired Funko lines section that would include Spastiks, Nodniks, Handy Dandys, Pop ups, etc.

There's the Wobbler Dance, Pop Shuffle, Funko Force slam dance...would the Handy Dandys have been the Handy Dandy Hambone? Wacky Wisecrack Wiggle? Peek a Boo Pop Ups breakdance?

I sort of feel like the funko force slam dance and the pop shuffle should be the same thread.. because of the original name for the POP! line.

AS far as combining the retired lines into one section maybe it could be called the Retired Rumba.
