Hot Topic Dr Whooves & Fluttershy regular & chase
Thanks Adam!
Am I interpreting correctly? There are 3 dr whooves variants? Red tie, green and sparkly??
"Awesome My Little Pony vinyl collectible featuring the likeness of the amazing Dr. Whooves!
Half of the assortment wears a red tie and the other half wears a green tie! Which will your pony be wearing? It's a surprise!
1 in 24 will receive the sparkly clear chase figure variant!"
I'm a sucker and will try for them all!

I like the idea of having chases, but I guess I am confused since they both are listed as variants, maybe just the Dr one has a variant, but both have chases.

I really want both of these. In fact I kind of wish the first set looked this cool, those had kind of fat faces. Oh well though. Glad they are getting the actually important characters that people care about into Figures. (next set will probably be Twilight and Vinyl Scratch)

I kinda remember Brian saying there would be a MLP blind box back at fundays, he didnt mention it with other upcoming blind box sets though. Wonder if they are still coming.

I want that non-sparkly Fluttershy so badly, but Hot Topic's international shipping prices are insane, so I'll wait till Hot Topic's exclusivity period ends (after May) and get the figure then from somewhere closer to me (geographically).

Re: Hot Topic Dr Whooves & Fluttershy regular & chase
I really don't care for the clear sparkly Crystal Empireish versions. Because of the 1 in 24 chance of getting one of those this ensures that I will NOT pre-order. I also don't like the fact you can't choose which tie version of Whooves you want at the time of per-order.
I'm glad you all are making good quality ponies...(though can you put the cutie marks on both sides so we can display facing either direction?)
I have to question the decision to use the sparkly clear "variants" as a pre-order driver....from what I've seen in the fan community, people are not wild about those and you may have just shot yourselves in the foot with using those as a pre-order incentive. You really need to be 10000% sure a variant is going to be popular before using it as a pre-order driver. Look to the fandom and see what's getting the most attention...that will tell you what's most popular. I see very little...actually I haven't seen any Crystal Kingdom fan art which would lead me to believe that might be a popular variant. People seem to want basic show accurate figures the most.
I think some episodic variants could be popular after the Mane6, all Princesses, all popular background and all villains are out...but they should be ones the fans really liked...for example Nightmare Night costumed Mane6 and maybe Zacora..thats the type of variant I could see being popular.

They are chase variants, there will be people who want them, I could see if they were a 1/4 or 1/6 but at 1/24 if someone should get one from their preorder they should easily be able to trade it for another. I also don't see it as a preorder incentive, it's not like a bonus, it's a chase figure.

Hot Topic Dr Whooves & Fluttershy regular & chase
I think many people do not understand what a chase is. Clearly companies like Kid Robot, tokidoki have been doing it for years. I think that Hot Topic saw how well the first 2 sold right out of the gate and were trying to ensure that they captured as much of that customer base as possible.
I think that hot topic was trying to clarify that this set had a chase/variant vs the first set which did not.
And any mlp fan who gets a chase variant and doesn't want it, I'm sure there are funatics or other mlp fans who will want it.
I personally want the glittery ones and the regular ones. Just not sure i NEED 3 different Dr. whooves. Esp with all the other funko coming out this year.

Re: Hot Topic Dr Whooves & Fluttershy regular & chase
Ordered all 4 figs from Hot Topic today. Obviously since I ordered all of them together and Fluttershy & Dr. Hooves aren't out yet, the package won't ship till end of next week, but I'm very anxious to get these, which will be my first ever Funko figures. I just hope I don't get those ugly (imo) glittery variants, especially with Fluttershy, which is my favorite character.

It's funny that most of the pony fans don't care for the chases, but Funatics are all over them, in time they will change their minds ha.

I love the glittery chase ponies. And Eddie, I agree it's funny how the pony fans do not like the chase figs but the funatics love them. Maybe it because funatics just love the awesome-ness that is funko.

I'm guessing the chase versions aren't show accurate, so fans of the show think they're "wrong".

Re: Hot Topic Dr Whooves & Fluttershy regular & chase
I don't care how rare or wanted some versions of figures are, if I don't like at all how they look on my shelf. As I have no intention to resell my figures, I don't care how rare or "valuable" they might be. I just want to have as how accurate as possible non-brushable pony figures on my pony shelf. And here in Finland, even having the regular ones of these will result of me having something on my collection that most don't.

Re: Hot Topic Dr Whooves & Fluttershy regular & chase
I understand more about the chase's now. It still stands though I didn't want to risk getting one thus didn't pre-order. I think the chase's are really only appealing to hard core serious vinyl collectors who have an interest in such things and might have inhibited Hot Topic's pre-orders from the broader pony fan pool. I'm not a hard core vinly collector, I just want show accurate pony figures, so for potential customers like me...the chase's were a turn off, I also wouldn't want to have to go through the effort of trying to orchestrate a trade if I had gotten one, I just want to receive the merchandise that I prefer.
And yes with regards to Doctor Whooves. He was an unnamed background pony originally but pony fans noticed his looks similarity to David Tennant (if Tennant were turned into a pony!) plus he had an hour glass cutie mark, thus Doctor Whoooves was born. He's become a pretty popular fan driven pony much like Derpy. I know quite a few Whovians that were brought into the MLP herd because they initially saw Doctor Whooves somewhere.

Re: Hot Topic Dr Whooves & Fluttershy regular & chase
So in the interests of cross-fandom understanding, for you funko fanatics, the MLP fandom is starved for show accurate figures. Hasbro is horrible about producing that, their figures have that brushable hair that isn't show accurate. Sure little kids love it, but not the more discerning adult fans. They even manage to mess up the body colors on some of their figures. Enter the Funko license to address this adult fan base. Funko is now producing show accurate figures with molded hair that we've been clamoring for. To the pony fandom the glittery chases look like a not very good attempt to make pony variants that tie into an episode called the Crystal Empire where the ponies were temporarily turned into crystal versions of themselves like the crystal ponies that live in that Empire. There are also clear glittery blind bag mini figures out there and the chases look like those. The clear glittery blind bag versions to the adult pony fans feels like Hasbro trying to shove little girl sparkly princessness at us when what we want is simple show accuracy that's true to the individual characters. This is why the pony fandom doesn't like those chase variants.
There's a newish thread about people getting ship notices on one of the most popular pony sites. Some people were making comments about the glittery versions, not understanding why they even exist, much like I was until I came here and you all educated me. I shared the info you all shared with me there and suggested that if any pony fans end up with a chase they do not want, they might try coming here to work out a trade. Luckily what we don't want, you guys do so maybe we can all help each other.
It would have been nice if Hot Topic had made a bifurcated ordering process so those who wanted the 1 in 24 chance of the chase variants would have it while those who don't want it could still pre-order. That way the chases would be going to people who actually want and value them. I honestly think this is just a misunderstanding of what fandoms value. The mistake was thinking the larger pony fandom would value the same things that the funko collectors do when our interests/desires aren't the same. Hopefully they'll learn that what's gold to one fandom isn't necessarily gold to another.

No shipping confirmation for me yet. From other places I've read people receiving their figures without confirmation, but as an international customer I kinda need that for doing customs declaration, so I hope to receive it at some point.
And personally I'm not on any English pony forums/boards, I read EQD and sometimes comment things there, but actual forums/boards I'm at are Finnish ones.

Both of my preorders shipped. 2 Flutterhy's and 2 Doctor Whooves on their way to me. Should all be here to me tomorrow, as they're in New Hampshire right now.
Also, please don't generalize adult pony fans. Plenty of us enjoy brushables.

Never saw such a fuss over some vinyl ponies. You guys are sick.
Speaking of sick. Hope I get at least one chase. And this is from a collector who knows nothing about MLP other than what I've read here. I just am starving for new Funko that's not Pop!

Re: Hot Topic Dr Whooves & Fluttershy regular & chase
It seem that they had shipped the second half of my my order on 21st, but had failed to inform me about it. I sent them an email about being worried about my shipment, because they already shipped half of it and I wanted known that I'm going to get rest of it. And their response was, that they had sent it already on 21st and provided me with a tracking number. With this info, I should have my Fluttershy and Dr. Whooves by next weekend.
