Blind boxes

Postby chester » Sun Feb 10, 2013 6:59 pm

I just want to know if everyone likes these,or not? I was trying to get a set of the pocket Gods, because i think they are awesome, but today I got three doubles out of four. I don't have a lot of extra money. So the ones I have are the only ones I'm buying.
I just wanted to get your opinion with all the new blind boxes coming out.(Disney,Marvel, etc.)

Blind boxes in general drive me crazy Paul. When Scott and I went to NYCC I got some Kidrobot blind boxes and I had to follow a rule. I could buy one at a time and open them. As long as I didn't get a duplicate I could keep going. As soon as I got a duplicate I had to stop.

I love the Disney Blind boxes so those are going to be my weakness. I want them all and some of them look they are going to be hard to get.

I have managed to stay away from blind boxes, but Funko is really testing my willpower with their upcoming series. The Disney and NBC ones are adorable, but it's suprisingly the Batman series that is calling my name. Must resist!

I hate blind boxes. One of the things I loved about FunKo when I started collecting was that they didn't have any. I'm a poor college student so I can't really afford to pay for something and then hope it's what I want.

With that said, I will be trolling eBay and elsewhere for some of the blind box figures I really want

I dabble with Blind Boxes, mostly with the Disney Vinylmation. However, I prefer to know what I am getting, so I don't think I'll participating that much, unless I want to start trading.

I do not do blind box anything. I always end up with many, many dupes. However I think Funko will do well because of the character lines they are doing.

Can't say I'm a fan of Blind Boxes, probably because it might get too addicting, but the price seems pretty good to me versus what they charge for like say Vinylmations, so I'll be diving into the Disney ones and give them a shot.

I sorta have experience buying blind boxes from Kidrobot. The 1/144 will cost a pretty penny as the regulars might range from retail to 1.5-2x. I haven't bought any cases yet but I do look at others' case layouts to see if there is a pattern. As for Kidrobot, I saw a pattern in one of the series and asked Nelson, Fugitive Toys, if he could prove my theory right. So, he opened a brand new sealed case...I pulled the spot that had the best chance of getting a chase, one of the harder ones to get like 1 in 3 cases. I found two spots and pulled from there...long and behold, I pulled one that was 1/60 and 1/80. It would help if people who buy cases post their case layout by taking a pic of what they got from their case and from where. For example:

Not sure if it's indicative of age, but I truly dislike blind boxes. I guess it could be a gambling thing, though, and not age. When it comes to spending my money, I like to know what I'm getting. That said, the designs of the blind box pieces are very cool.

I think the trade thread idea is excellent. But like Chris said, the common pieces will rule, but it will still be helpful.

Blind boxes can be fun, but annoying. I think the blind box trade section would be a good idea! Otherwise they'll likely end up on ebay selling as opened ones so you can pick and choose. Personally if I reallllyy love the set I buy an entire case and I've always done really well that way and not got too many dupes.

I have no doubt that these will be a hit and Funko will do quite well on them. I believe kids will like the challenge and the mystery and the gamble.

The figures are really nicely done, but I, personally, want to know what I'm buying before I do. Heck, I'm even hesitant to buy a box of Cracker Jacks - no telling what will be on the little square paper things that they pack in with the sugary popcorn goodness.

That's also why I never bought a Buick in a box. ;-)

Like most I like and loathe blind boxes. I have the worst luck. When the vinylmations were new I bought 4. 2 for me and 2 for Kailey. We both got the exact same ones! Then I bought 4 of the tokidoki unicorno series 1. We got 3 if the same ones! Same thing happened with series 2. So I will probably buy 4 then will try to buy some others from funatics. Because then it helps everyone!

It will be a win win situation...you buy what you want/need and the seller gets some $$$ back to buy more blind boxes =)

There are 6 figures that are 1/144...I'm thinking each case will have at least 1 of the 1/144. But if you are lucky, you might get two. All depends on the case layout if they have a pattern or not.

I've only bought a couple of blind boxes before, Toy Story Vinylmation because I wanted to get Buzz. The first one I bought at Downtown Disney in CA and got Lotso. A year later, I bought one at the Disney Store on Oahu and I got Buzz! If I didn't get him in that box, I would've probably just bought him on eBay.

The only Mystery Mini's I'll buy are the Disney ones. Probably will just buy a case.

A trade section sounds like a good idea!

I LOVE blind boxes and blind bags! I don't mind doubles, I just love the thrill of opening it and not knowing for sure what's inside. It's like a present to myself. Maybe it's the gambling aspect, too. I don't know.

With MLP blindbags, there's ways to cheat, and there's no real rare ones since they come 24 to a box, one of each characters.

I'm super excited for the Disney and Hello Kitty Funko blind boxes!

*edit* Just preordered 3 of the Disney ones!
