new silver faced funko rat fink rub marks

Postby parrot » Fri Mar 15, 2013 2:38 pm

Hi, I recently purchased a new sdcc 2008 silver faced rat fink limited to 480 pieces on the internet. Inside the box which is otherwise mint except the clear plastic window has a couple of paint rubs I believe from the tip of the nose on the rat fink. I called the seller up about this as I wasn't too happy and he told me this was common on the older rat finks! My questions is does the paint rubs inside the clear window inside the box and a small rub spot on the tip of the rat finks nose take away from the collectors value? Before I bought this I asked the seller if the rat fink was new and mint in the box and he said yes ! Any help with this I would appreciate. Not too happy. I collect rat finks and this is the first one I have had show up like this!

Some pieces are rushed through the production process, causing issues such as paint on the inside of the window. SDCC pieces often are hurriedly made.

Collectors value? Well, I hate to disappoint you, but Funko toys are not a smart investment. Over the last eight years, I have seen "values" drop 68% or more on the rarest of items. With or without a "small rub spot", the piece isn't going to change anything significant in value. As for the window, clean the paint off. People have posted their cleaning methods in the forum, so a search or two should help you locate the details.

If you're unhappy, start a dispute and ultimately send it back. eBay favors buyers, so you're sure to get your money back (less shipping). Life's too short to stew over something so insignificant.

I appreciate the reply. It wasn't bought on ebay but your right life is way too short! Thank you.

The Reddy Kilowatt wobbler did the same thing. There were others as well, but they seem to be escaping me at the moment.

Yeah, lots of noses hit the window, if it takes the paint off, use a magic marker to touch it up. They probably should put a "nose cover" over those that would have a propensity to hit the window.

They could of done a better job to prevent it from happening especially on a limited production piece with the paint smears inside the clear plastic window! Thanks.

I happens on 90% of Funko wobblers that touch the windows of their boxes. The older pieces which were connected to the box by a tie usually always have paint rubs. It is simply a symptom of manufacturing anything that is painted in Asia. It can be easily corrected by a sharpie, but in most cases I have always let them go. Funko is all about the fun, so enjoy your Rat Fink wobbler! There are many more Rat Fink wobblers that Funko has produced....check them all out!

Factory workers in China do not care about paint marks on the window of the box. I wish they did, but there is very little quality control on anything that is produced in China.

Well there are a few that you will not get because they are a 1/1 and they are in a collectors hands that will not sell at this time. The gray one with out a wrench goes for about $100 if you can find it all the other 7" one you can get from $5 to $60, actually that includes the 12" ones too. The 24" will go from $150 to 450 everything above that is just stupid.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm interested in the regular 7" gray fink without the wrench. Thank you for the help.

The gray fink without the wrench is hard to find. Only 1000 were made and over half of those were sent to Japan as exclusives for That Toy Guy (source: Letsgetwacky.com)
