An error with Maleficent Mystery Mini Ratio?

Postby MasterKenobi » Thu Apr 18, 2013 7:39 pm

So on Facebook we have been checking out who gets what. The 1/72 Maleficent is turning up A LOT. At least 3 or 4 ppl who bought a case got 2 of the 1/72 Maleficent in the case.

But the 1/24 Maleficent with her arms in the air hasn't been seen much at all. So I think there is a possibility that the ratios are wrong on those 2. So before you trade off your 1/24 Maleficent, I'd hold on to it for a bit!

Perhaps they mixed up which ratio goes with which minis?

In my two cases, I got three 1/72 and one 1/24. On the Funko Trading FB Group page, someone's collecting data on this and it seems the 1/72's ratio is close to 1/24 and the 1/24's ratio is about 1/96 so far. I thought someone posted that they had asked on Funko's FB page but I didn't see the question.

David, I can't find anyone asking on the Funko Facebook page either. There are several of us here who have been questioning this since last week. I am just wondering if there is a printing error and the 1/24 and the 1/72 was switched when printed. Carol asked me about this last week.

If FB wasn't blocked here at work, I'd go ask now. I'll check after work to see if anyone asked and if no one didn't I'll ask.

I'm new to this whole blind box ratio thing, but when you add up all the figures ratios in terms of 144, you only get 129.

I'm new to the ratio thing as well, but I believe 1/144 means that there should be at least 1 per every 144 boxes opened. Since a case is 24 boxes, in theory, it should take you 6 cases to find a certain 1/144 piece.

What HWK is saying is that the odds-given don't square with distribution. Use your example: Buy six cases; get 144 pieces.

The first Mickey is a 2/24. Two pieces per case, times six cases, equals twelve pieces. 12/144
The next Mickey is a 1/72. One piece per three cases, times six cases, equals two pieces. 2/144
The third Mickey is a 1/18. 1-1/3 pieces per case, times six cases, equals 8 pieces. 8/144

When you work your way through all of the odds, you end up with 129/144. In other words, if the six cases yielded each piece in it's listed proportion, you'd only have 129 pieces. Except you have 144 pieces.

I added up the ratios for all of the Mystery Mini lines and here's what I came up with:

129 for Disney/Pixar
131 for Domo DC
122 for DC
145.2 for Pocket God
144 for NBC
136 for Horror
144 for Hello Kitty
150 for Game of Thrones
144 for Walking Dead

So only a third of the lines have the correct ratios.

Ah, see I told you I was new to the ratio thing. Thanks for the explanation!

Funko replied and said the ratios weren't switched, we must just be lucky. Maybe the factory in China made too many 1/72's at first and will catch up with the 1/24's later on?
