Big Boy Wacky Wobbler

Postby hypervillain » Sat Jul 06, 2013 4:37 am

Hey Guys,

I hope you're all doing great :)

I'm quite new here in the boards and normally lurks around the Pop! section but I have a question on the Big Boy Wobbler - is it by any chance rare?

Just wondering because a friend said he saw one on the weekly vintage markets for $10, still in a great condition and in the original box. He didn't want to buy it because it looks a bit dodgy, but someone who came after him bought it and was super excited - I just checked on ebay and there's a listing for $30. He said the one he saw looked exactly like that, so wasn't dodgy after all. It's probably still a bargain anyway at 10 dollars but if it's indeed some sort of a holy grail to collectors, that buyer was very lucky.

Thanks! Hope to hear some comments on this - very curious :)

IMO not a good deal. There are a lot of these wobblers out there.

Ah OK, so maybe it's not that rare then - thanks - maybe here in Australia it's hard to find (forgot to mention that important detail). Thanks!

FunKo alone has probably made close to 50K Big Boys in all the different variations ..

There are other companies that have made him as well ..

There are several varieties of the Big Boy. What's cool about Big Boy is that it was Funko's 1st Wobbler, so it's historically significant--plus he's cute as hell. For even the basic Big Boy which was hugely massed produced, I think $10 is a good price since new Wobblers in stores cost more than that. Even if you're just a PoP guy, A Big Boy is a great piece of Funko to own--for the nostalgia if nothing else.

In the summer of 1979, I flipped burgers at a Bob's Big Boy Restaurant in Springfield, Ohio. Sadly, one of the worst summer jobs I had while at college. :D

The original run of the first 1000 (and numbered) are getting really HTF. The numbered Big Boy wobblers are not found on ebay or anywhere else very often.

There are some cheap-ass big boy "imitations" made by other companies, so beware.......just like the inferior Empire Carpet Guy wobblers.

Funko still made the best version of the boy!

Wow, thanks guys for the great answers, stories, and the links - and yes Scotty it'll be great to have it even only for the nostalgia value - I suppose it's also a must have for a Funko fan :)

Where did you get it? By chance at an actual Bob's Big Boy? Pretty darn cool that your first was Funko's first.

Saw it at the register at a Big Boys in Fresno - used to fly out there every month for several years on business (Fresno County - not Big Boys). Didn't buy it. After I got home, and a few weeks later, I couldn't get that little guy off of my mind. Went on ebay and bought one. Then found out about Funko and have been on a hunt and collecting spree ever since.

There is an Empire Carpet kiosk in the mall near my parents house and they had 3 of those wobblers as part of their small setup, but I didn't have time to flip them over to see if they were funko or not...or to try to buy them from a mall carpet salesman :)

I bought flooring from Empire last fall, and the saleslady had a case of non-Funko empire guys. Windows were falling off the boxes, thin card stock, crappy looking wobbler. But these are the real deal........

Image

Only one of these is the real McCoy - the other 2 are fakes made at 2 different timeframes by Empire. The one on the right is the latest fake (just has "CHINA" imprint on bottom of base), the one in the middle is the real Funko.

Love the Big Boy....he's my first wobbler....well, the Big Fred that is :D I still want to get the bank, as I believe those are the only ones with him holding the raised burger....right?? :dontknow:

As a kid I would have told you that Empire Carpet was a local company, based on the cheesy commercials. I'd have sworn they were made by some local-access type shop. lol
Names Michael....hi :smt006
