Just wanted to say...

Postby MyLittleFunkos » Fri Oct 04, 2013 10:29 am

How awesome wobblers are! I'm shocked that wobblers don't get much love. I mean, people hardly post in this sub-section or seem to give wobblers much attention and I'm curious as to why that is. The minute I saw the Pez and wobbler cars I fell in love! And they are soooo much better looking in person! Now I've been really liking the Freddy banks and older wobblers. I just picked up a bunch of older Iron Man wobblers for less than the cost of a single 1/96 Freddy Stark, nuts!! As soon as I finish my Batman & Iron Man wobbler collection I think I'm going to start picking up a lot of these older pieces. Like everyone says, the detail on this line is amazing, especially when you compare it to the simplicity of a POP (not dissing, I love POPs, too). I wonder if Funko plans on expanding the wobbler lines, I would love some Ninja Turtle or Wreck It Ralph Wobblers! I'll stop ranting now...

Pretty much all I wanted to say is, Wobblers rock!!! :D

People like tiny cute things. POP sales are drastically more than Wobblers. Stores want to carry whatever sells best and when that's POPs it leaves no room for Wobblers. Plus they're just a fraction more expensive and generally speaking people want what's cheaper. There's a lot of people that have probably never seen them in the wild and therefore don't know about them. But I agree, Wobblers are under appreciated-they definitely have their own delightful aspects to them.

I agree Claire, this generation of collectors definitely like the lesser dollar amount of the Pop than the higher dollar amount especially when it comes to collecting the expensive retired wobblers. Pop is also the "fad" now. Pretty soon Pop will be replaced with something else...

You brought up a point Abe that boggles my mind and it seems to be a more social issue. It seems to be that an entire section on the board is not getting any love and that is most things outside of Pop. I don't think that has anything to do with the Vinyl. This used to be a place where we were all family and wanted to see what we were all collecting and doing. We cared about each other. I don't feel that anymore. I see a significant drop in the amount of people who are posting a "welcome" to the new people and a significant drop in a birthday thread! I go into ALL the threads to get to know people.

Sorry I derailed this thread Abe...it's just when I read it, it wasn't solely about the "wobblers"...Carry on.

I think you have to see a Wobbler in person to appreciate them. First, I had no idea how big they were. And, as has already been discussed, the detail is phenomenal. I've actually just started to purchase a few Wobblers (NBC) because I had a spot to fill when I was decorating for Halloween this weekend, and fell in love with the Jack Skellington WW when I saw it in person. I'll post pics when the rest come in. Should be Saturday.

The reason nobody post to the Wobbler section is because most all of the new collectors have been Pop collectors and know very little of Funko's other (non-Pop) product lines...including the one that started it all: WOBBLERS!

And truthfully, many of them don't care.

Stacey's right. It is a bit fadish right now. In a year's time, a very large number of the people posting here will be out of Pop and on to something else.. Think about that the next time you see someone post about how they'll NEVER sell their collections. Those guys come and go in droves. And when they leave, they'll be replaced by new people, who themselves won't last very long.

(Some of that, BTW, is on this community. We tend to be a bit cliquish and a tad judgemental of new people...read Eye on the Web for the best examples of this dynamic.)

Do what you can to spread the wobbler love. Spastiks, too.

That all makes logical sense, but I think that when you consider what you're getting versus the price, it's a very justifiable price. I think the fact that retailers aren't carrying wobblers is the biggest reason for people not appreciating them, hence not buying them. But I think all you need to do is actually see a picture of one to be able to appreciate it. Then once you hold on, that's when you'll love it.

No worries, Stacey, because I agree. It's crazy to see a new topic (sometimes 5!+) posted in the POP section, yet no one will even reply to a topic in any other section for weeks. I appreciate all Funko lines, even though I don't own them all. I don't post in most because I don't feel I have the knowledge to post on most subjects, but I am reading up on them in spare time so I can be come familiar with them. It's really become a POP forum, and hey, it's what brought me here so I can't complain. It would just be cool to see the same names outside of the POP section. I'm not one to judge and I don't want to start a debate so I'll leave it at that.

Good point, Cristina. I feel that way about the Pez. I always just assumed they were these cheap, little, plastic pieces. Then I saw a picture Ross posted and noticed that they actually looked pretty big, so I bought one. When I opened up the packaged I was shocked to see how big and sturdy they actually are!

Cliquish and judgemental?! No!!! lol

Sounds like you've seen this happen plenty of times! Like I've mentioned in various threads, I used to buy a bunch of different POPs. Then I started to learn more about Funko and what they had to offer so I decided to focus on pieces that I truly loved. So now I've stuck to Batman and Iron Man (and some Avengers) pieces, my favorite heroes. Every morning when I'm getting ready I walk into my computer room and just admire my collection. I do the same thing when I get home. The pieces that I have left are pieces I can never see myself selling, without a gun being put to my head.

But I will try to spread the wobblin' love!

We've seen it a bunch, unfortunately. People get excited...buy one of everything....realize that everything is now up around 700 pieces or so...sell out because they spent too much. They're probably collecting mini-labbits now or something.

For most collectors, I think it's good to be selective. Less chance of burn-out and a greater enjoyment of the pieces you have. I can't see 'loving' 200 pieces of plastic, but that's just me.

Star Trek mini Enterprises, however...Oh man, I've got to build a fleet!

Funny you use that word. My wife said the EXACT same thing. She suggested I be more selective when buying my pieces so that I don't burn out. I only have about 100 pieces total now, and love em all!

Fascinating question/observation:

Pop's are cheaper to buy, cheaper to ship, numbered, and produced with a wider range of diversity of product lines. In many ways these are more fun to collect for the masses since a lot are available and so many easy to find choices.

Wobblers have a ton more detail and are amazing. . Few exclusives. Limited current catalog, but almost unlimited back catalog. Really have to dig for the old stuff which can be a plus or minus per the person.

I think the funatic forum is the exception and not the rule when it comes to closeness. The company has prioritized collectors more than any other company that I know and a family has developed, especially with the annual fundays. A lot of other communities it's about the collectible. Once the collectible fad has passed, the draw to the forum does too. Something a bit deeper here, plus funko has a bit of something for everyone.

I think the trend now is more to facebook/twitter communication. Quick blurbs of life. I love the old school field here, sit down, have some coffee and stay a while....

I don't quite understand the reasoning behind not offering more of a variety in wobbler form. Is it the cost associated with producing such a detailed piece that keeps Funko from expanding this line? I would love to see all the Iron Man suits that are available in POP! form to also be available in Wobbler form. I'm sure a lot of collectors would agree with me, just like Yoko mentioned that she would like a She-ra to go with her MOTU collection.

But I do think that it's really cool that Funko offers a little something to everyone, and who knows, maybe eventually more POP! folks will open up to the other lines.

I love both Pop!s and WWs. The only reason I have more Pop!s is because more of my favorite characters (primarily Disney) have been made as Pop!s and not Wobblers. After what happened with the Disney Wisecracks being changed from Wobblers to vinyl figures because of the child safety issue, I'm not sure we'll ever see WWs of characters that have already been made into Pop!s. I'm just glad that NBC is a movie that has a larger adult fan base and as a result didn't fall prey to the same fate as the Disney Wisecracks. I love my NBC WWs. :D

I started with wobblers a few years ago.
Anything funko is great! From wisecracks , blox and so on.

I think the last 2 years of wobblers look amazing!
From LOTR to Nightmare before Christmas.
They just getting more detailed. I love my Dark Knight Joker Wobbler.
Looking forward to the new horror line of wobblers.

I think Blizzard wobblers would be a great line to make.
Imagine a Diablo wobbler!

My story has been 'come for the pops... Stay for the wobblers'! I love my Star wars pop collection, but all but 1 of my grails land in wobbler territory at the moment. It's a shame they stopped because there are so many EU characters that would have made amazing wobblers. I have to stop myself multiple times a day from ordering marvel wobblers I see on eBay because I just don't have the space or the funds.

Long live the Wobbler!

Wobbler collectors get no love these days. Every other month Funko releases new Pops but wobbler lovers have to wait months to get anything new. I've been collecting Funko Wacky Wobblers for ten years now. I remember back in the day wobblers were released left and right. Now we get the scraps:(

I've noticed how close of group the older collectors are, most of which seem to be hardcore wobbler collectors. I think that's really cool, you don't see that much on Internet forums. Like you said, a lot of people come and go...That's why I figure the older collectors are always looking out for each other, because they know that if they help someone out, chances are that item will stay in someone's collection for a long time. Not sold to someone who will offer up unlimited funds for it, display it proudly for a few months and then sell it for a nice profit. That's what I've picked up from all the members who tell us newer collectors to have patience. I really like this forum.

Back to wobblers, it is sad to see how many older, cool pieces where available in the past and yet new wobbler lines hardly come out nowadays. That must be why the wobbler heads have all turned to POP! :D

And Jordan, I'm like you. I came for the POP have stayed for the wobblers. I've always been a bobblehead guy, mainly sports figures, so I've always been fond of the spring. And now that I've discovered all these cool hero pieces I'm dying to have quite a few.

Wobblers are definitely my favorite, but I'm a huge fan of just about everything Funko makes. As awesome as I find the Wobblers, I completely understand why PoP are so popular--they're colorful, have great variety, and let's face it, they're pretty damn cute. I only collect the first few series of DC and Star Wars Pop, but I'm hugely grateful Stacey collects Disney PoP because I think they're awesome.

I think there's less going on in this section of the forum because there's just less going on with Funko and Wobblers. But what's cool is when a new collector catches on to Wobblers there's like 50 aunts and uncles who want to help inspire that Wobbler collection on.

Unfortunately with fewer Wobbler products being put out, there is less to talk about. And with over 10 years of collecting, there's only so many times you can rehash the same topics. If Funko started banging out more old school Wobblers, like ad icons, Hanna Barbera, Looney Tunes, and even more modern characters, there'd be a huge buzz in this section. My guess is, though, that that is not a very good business decision for the modern-day Funko. What I wouldn't give for Auggie Doggie & Dogge Daddy and Snooper & Blabber Wobblers--or another Huck variant ](*,) .

All is not lost, however. Still plenty of Wobbler love on this board (and Spastik love too). It may be a little quieter, but it's just as passionate.

I'm thinking it's time for another episode of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom--In Search of the Wobbler (I'll have to get on that). :D

I came for the Sleestaks. It took me a couple of years to get the entire set of wobblers, banks (still missing santastak), pez, nodniks, action figures (funko force). Last October I bought a couple of Cthulhu wobblers, two George Sanderson pops and a Gremlin with the idea of turning the Pops into Sleestak or Enik customs. I decided I liked the form factor and well, started getting boxes delivered to my house several times a week :D I stayed mostly focused on MvsR monkeys and Pops (Marvel, DC and Game of Thrones completist).

My wife has commented on my collection 'sprawl' recently and we have talked about the amount of money I have put into my collection in a very short period of time. I think that some of the earlier posts (by Squird and others) in this thread contain wise words about not burning out. I'm probably going to let go of pieces I don't love in order to focus on ones that I do. I've always been a 'niche' character collector and I'll probably shift back towards just collecting those characters - and - pieces I love that might fall outside of my usual character constraints.

The people here are truly a unique collector community. Like all communities, we occasionally have our spats but you will never meet a more genuine, generous and funny group of people.

One other unique aspect that appeals to this Funko collector... Brian has a magic touch when it comes to being able to secure licenses that others companies feel are impossible to get. The monster minis from all of the various horror license holders; the Star Wars / universal monsters mash-ups; Marvel and DC at the same time; 2000AD etc
I bet that Brian could even crack the impossible license of getting ROM Spaceknight included in the Marvel line-up. Marvel run of the Micronauts too please :D

ITS JUST NEGATIVE LATELY. PEOPLE b**** ABOUT PAINT, SHIPPING, NUMBERS ON THE BOXES, COST OF EXCLUSIVES, THINGS NOT BEING FAIR, FLIPPERS, MEMBERS WHO DECIDED THEY ARE THE BOARD POLICE. POPS ARE COOL BUT WOBBLERS ARE IT FOR ME. I JUST DON'T NEED TO WASTE MY TIME READING NEGATIVE COMMENTS OR 20 PAGES OF CONGRATS AND IN.

I like the wobblers for the amount of detail and how more real they look compared to Pops!, yea Pops! are my first love but wobblers are awesome if you like a specific piece. For example, i rather have the Heath Ledger Joker Wobbler over the Pop! because he really looks like the joker while the Pop! has these weird white eyes, hahaha

Hell, I would love a Deadpool wobbler, I can only imagine how cool he would look in wobbler form!

I'm a little disappointed that Loki wasn't made (with a helmet) for the first Thor movie!

re Loki - I hear ya.
re Deadpool - the only recommendation I would make to Funko would be to go with the two sword look.

I fell in love with Funko almost 10 years ago because of their Wacky Wobblers. Then I went to my first ComicCon and Funday in 2005. There I fell in love with many of the Funatics that I met. Over the years, and after many more wobblers and many of their protos, I've made many more friends. This is what has made collecting Funko so special for me.

But lately, this board has significantly expanded its membership due to the hugely successful line of Pop! It pleases me greatly that this line has made Funko a name that's now recognized and collected world wide and I'm happy for the new Funatics and thrilled and proud of Brian and his team.

But I am not a fan of Pop!, and for that reason I have very little in common with most of the new collectors. I also have little to contribute in most of the topics, threads and posts - other than a congrats here, a welcome there and happy birthday to those I don't even know (which seems somewhat awkward to me - similar to showing up at a birthday party for someone I don't know).

So over the past couple of weeks I have decided to keep my posting to a minimum. Why clutter up the board if I don't have something relevant to contribute? I had hoped to get to know more of the so-called "Pop People", but with so many and with so little in common I have finally realized that this is no longer possible.

So I wish you all well. I'll still be stopping by daily to fulfill my moderator duties, and may post when I feel I can make a positive contribution.

And of course, I'll continue to add to my wobbler collection (along with some new vinyl figures that Funko is releasing), and I'll still be actively seeking out protos - even though they have become much more difficult - or even impossible - for me to find lately.

So until then, a huge congrats for all your new Pop!, a heartfelt "awesome" for sharing your displays, and a gaggle of Happy Birthdays to each and every one of you.

WOBBLE ON!!!!!!!
.

Well I can not say I came because the wobblers, it was the Spastik Plastik for me as most already know. I can say it was a little different when I started though, a much smaller community but much closer to each other which might be hard to believe. At one time I was treated as an outsiders just like many of you might feel. I don't think it is to be hateful but it just because you make friends and friends take care of each other. For those that might feel like that just become an active member and make friends, soon the next set of newbies will say the same thing about you.

My first SDCC/Fundays was in 2011 and I plan to keep going for a very long time. It is such a great time and I get to meet new funatics and hang out with my friends(ones I already meet). I am so happy for Brian and all his success, if you ever meet the man you will see that he deserves it, such a great guy. You will never meet a guy with a huge company that will take care of his customers like this man, not to forget Mike Becker who started it all. By "all" I mean the traditions and family that we have till this day.

As for wobbler I love them too, especially the original characters which is what I mainly collect. I know they do not really create Funko original character anymore other than Freddy but lets be real it is just a Freddy head on a already created body lol . I still can not get enough of that Freddy though. That might be the reason I only have certain Pop's because they do not create original characters, I still have a bunch of them come to think of it #-o . In fact I have a little of everything Funko makes with the exception of the puppets, I gifted the whole set away in a contest lol .

I love the wobblers but my biggest soft spot is the Spastik :D !

Remember, "If it ain't FunKo, it ain't fun", so lets all make this a fun place no matter if you been here 10 years or 10 minutes. Spread the Funko love!
ISO Pop Spastik Tiki protos, ALL OF THEM!

REAL MEN DON'T KEEP SCORE!

SELL OUTS NEED TO RESTOCK SO THEY CAN SELL OUT AGAIN! :mir1:
