Star Wars Monster Mashup Prod/Proto Compare Question

Postby TheJobaFett » Thu Oct 24, 2013 12:16 am

So, I was taking some photos of my collection (as I tend to do once a week) and I noticed something kind of odd

6244

Notice how the head on the proto is significantly smaller than the production piece? My question is, is this a "reject" proto, leaving me with a full size head proto to hunt down? Or, did they just see the proto on the head, say "make the production head bigger" w/o ever making a full size head proto? Your local Funko Star Wars obsessor NEEDS to know :D

No Jordan, sometimes (especially in the olden days) the protos of a certain Funko piece were taller, bigger or had bigger heads due to the testing of the size. This was a pretty common thing with older Funko and many of the longtime collectors have protos like this. They are pretty cool to display next to the production piece with the size difference.

Yea, I'm used to seeing the older protos being larger than the production piece, not smaller. Pretty interesting.

Here is Ned production proto next to an oversized proto ( what they use to a call a 1 up piece ). This proto is now in Lindsey's collection.

Interesting to learn. Thanks for the info Kevin, I always enjoy your posts, I feel like I'm getting a Funko history lesson.

And thanks for the pic, Bear, very neat to see.

Here is a comparison of old larger proto compared to production piece.

Notice how the bank proto is slightly larger than the production piece.
